Chapter 1 - Dawn

"Little girl, why are you there?"

A tall stranger asked me.

He was very tall, was my first thought when I meet him.

His golden robes reflected off the tiles. His blue eyes followed me. I won't let him touch me.

This wouldn't be the first time a man had come to take the unwanted girl away for personal pleasure. I wouldn't be one of them. I bared the knife in my hand. I shouted. "Get out of here!"

I attacked directly for the stomach, he twisted my arm and blocked the knife.

When he took the knife from me, I screamed and tried to bite him. I growled at him, he let go of my hand. The pain gnawed at my shoulder, ugh.

I stopped growling when I realized he was still holding the knife. His palm was soaked in blood, he was holding it barehanded.

Who was he?

"Yelena." No one had called my name in years. Again, the question rang in my head. Who was he?

he stood upright, wiped the blood and grimaced. Is if he was annoyed that his blood was soaking his clothes and not the fact that he was still clutching the knife in his bare palm. Whoever you were, you were completely and utterly insane. "I work with your father."

"Prove it to me," I tried to sound confident. He wheeled forward a cart with a silver plate and ponchos and a pastry filled with nuts dusted with cinnamon. They are my favorite dessert in the house. I hesitated to take one of the desserts. He confirmed, "It's okay, you can take it."

My shoulder clenched through the pain, and I put my hand under to take one of the pastry. I looked straight into his eyes, refusing to be afraid of him. I made a mistake. His eyes are not blue, they have no color, they are like ice.

I took a bite of the hot dessert, he urged me to eat more.

I couldn't stop, they were so delicious.

He looked at me with an unreadable expression, then looked away straightening his shoulders. "I will teach you how to behave and make the prince fall in love with you."

I don't know much about the prince, only his name and where he is from. Pietr von Bogendon II of the planet Tiegen. I am supposed to marry him after the fifth moon's orbit.

He wiped the sides of my mouth gently, which didn't seem to come naturally to him. I said nothing, I filled my mouth with the pleasant warmth of the pastry.

I nodded in approval, remembering that I was eating with my mouth open, so I closed it.

"The other girls bully me."

A flash of anger went through his eyes, "I promise you will be safe."

Why would he want to help me? Although I was of noble birth, our house is nothing now. I hold no position with power here.

"I'll make sure they are gone." He softened his muscles when he touched my arm, and I was uncomfortable at feeling that gesture.

I narrowed my eyes and looked at him. Can I trust him?

I asked, "Who are you?"

"My name is Dawn."
