Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Junior Hermione (x) Mother Hermione (√)

Adelaide had originally thought her elementary school life in Notting Hill would be terrible, but the actual situation exceeded her expectations.

Perhaps because this was an all-girls school, compared to the mischief and constant noise of boys, the cute little girls were clearly much quieter.

However, for Adelaide, these were not the most crucial factors.

What truly surprised her was that she actually encountered an old acquaintance here.

Just a few days ago, while she was lying bored on her desk in the corner pretending to nap—but actually eavesdropping on the teachers' chatter outside the door—she accidentally caught an exciting piece of news: among the new students entering this year, there was a bookworm prodigy named Hermione Granger.

Upon hearing this name, Adelaide became excited instantly. She immediately used a bathroom break as an excuse to slip out of the classroom and head straight for the preschool class.

She carefully hid by the window outside the preschool classroom and cautiously turned her head to peer inside.

She saw almost all the children in the class sitting together and playing, except for one little girl with bushy brown hair sitting alone in the corner.

Although the girl's buckteeth were not very noticeable yet, that little look of her knitted brows and complete concentration as she read a storybook allowed Adelaide to immediately confirm that this unremarkable little girl was indeed the future all-powerful Miss Know-It-All!

To Adelaide's surprise, Miss Know-It-All had actually failed to integrate into the class even now.

In the blink of an eye, three months had passed since school started. With Christmas approaching, even Adelaide had successfully made a few introverted "I-type" friends in her class—these friends not only helped make up the numbers for group projects but also became targets for her teasing, serving as an indispensable part of her boring elementary school life.

Little Hermione stayed in the corner alone every day; didn't she feel bored?

Adelaide developed a strong curiosity about this future Miss Know-It-All.

In the following days, she would unconsciously keep an eye out and gather various pieces of information about Hermione.

After some inquiry and observation, Adelaide was surprised to find that the talent Hermione displayed in her studies was simply beyond imagination. Compared to her, a "little genius" who had transmigrated, Miss Know-It-All was the one with true natural talent in learning.

In every class, as long as the teacher threw out a question, Hermione's bright eyes would immediately sparkle, followed by her small hand shooting up high, as if she were afraid someone else might beat her to it.

And once the teacher called on her to answer, Hermione could always provide a perfect answer in clear and accurate language, leaving people in awe.

Whether it was complex spelling or obscure grammar rules that might take other children a lot of time and effort to understand and memorize, Hermione could always master them easily and use them with ease.

This little girl, who was only four years old, already possessed the ability to read independently. While other children were still describing pictures, she could already read text-based fairy tale books.

In every quiz or homework evaluation, Hermione's grades were always at the top, far ahead of her peers.

Such outstanding learning ability caused the other children in the class to instinctively feel a sense of rejection toward Hermione.

How does that saying go? The most terrifying thing is when someone smarter than you works even harder than you.

How could anyone else compete?

Coupled with Hermione's somewhat awkward personality, whenever it was recess, she would head to the class's book corner, find a comfortable spot to sit, and instantly immerse herself in the wonderful world built by books, completely ignoring everything outside.

Because of this, despite having been enrolled for a while, Hermione still hadn't managed to make any friends in class.

Adelaide planned to become her first friend.

Her main mission in transmigrating was to help the savior destroy the "plus" version of the Horcruxes. Getting acquainted with the main cast early would allow her to integrate into the savior's team sooner.

Relying on Hermione's innate affinity for top students, combined with Adelaide's unique charm as an extroverted "E-type" and her talent for persistent friend-making, it didn't take long for her to successfully close the distance with Hermione and finally become her only close friend as she wished.

Whether it was studies or the little details of life, Hermione would inquire about and manage everything, no matter how small. This made Adelaide, who had originally longed for a free and relaxed friendship, feel incredibly frustrated and helpless.

This wasn't just getting a friend; it was like getting a mother plus a private tutor!

"Adelaide, have you read even a little bit of the Bible? If things continue like this, you'll definitely fail your Religious Studies final exam this semester!"

Adelaide's lip twitched. She was a Wizard who believed in the great Merlin; how could she possibly be interested in that so-called God?

But with the constraints of the Ministry of Magic, she couldn't reveal her identity as a Wizard to Hermione, who was still a Muggle—Adelaide was truly like a mute person eating bitter melon, unable to speak of her suffering.

There was no other way. To make Hermione's non-stop little mouth shut up, Adelaide had no choice but to grab the school-issued Bible with utter reluctance, open the pages with a long face, and force herself to begin the painful process of reading and memorizing.

"Adelaide, why can't your Latin be as excellent as your math grades?"

"Hermione, people always have subjects they aren't good at..."

Adelaide tried to defend herself. She didn't want to spend too much time on Latin; it was meaningless.

After all, Latin had long since fallen out of use in the Wizarding World. Learning this stuff was inferior to learning Ancient Runes.

"Stop making those messy excuses. With your intelligence, it's impossible for there to be any subject you're 'not good at.' To put it bluntly, you're just too lazy to spend time memorizing!" Hermione lectured with her hands on her hips, looking quite angry.

"Starting today, you must memorize 30 Latin words for me every day. I'll come to quiz you during the lunch break. If you can't answer, don't even think about reading comics during recess!" Hermione raised the notebook in her hand expressionlessly and began assigning word tasks to her lazy friend.

Upon hearing this, Adelaide almost fainted on the spot.

Help!

Memorizing words every day was one thing, but having to undergo a quiz during lunch too?

Wasn't this going to drive someone crazy?

In a daze, Adelaide felt as if she had returned to those unbearable student days of her past life.

She couldn't help but sigh to the heavens: "Good lord, I've clearly transmigrated to this magical world, so why do I still have to suffer such torment and continue to endure this terrible pain of memorizing words!"
