Chapter 20 - Chapter 20: Seen, at Last.

The hospital corridors felt different that morning.

Not louder.

Not busier.

Just… softer.

Easier.

Mireya noticed it the moment she stepped in.

People glanced—but they didn't whisper.

They noticed—but didn't judge.

It was a subtle shift.

A shift she hadn't expected.

Jae arrived with his usual calm smile.

"Morning," he said, sliding his arm lightly around hers—not possessive, just present.

Mireya blinked. "You're… walking with me?"

"Why not?" he asked, feigning innocence.

She rolled her eyes but felt a warmth spread across her chest.

Even Hana raised an eyebrow from across the room.

"Oh, it's official," Hana muttered under her breath, smirking.

Mireya laughed quietly. "Don't announce it."

"You've been announced," Hana replied. "By your own hand."

Mireya groaned.

Their morning passed like this—quietly together, occasionally brushing fingers or sharing small smiles.

But the real test came during a staff meeting.

The supervisor spoke first, then Jae's department head.

"Before we begin," the head said, glancing around, "I want to acknowledge the teamwork between Mireya and Mr. Han. Their collaboration has been exemplary. And it's clear they trust each other."

Mireya froze, realizing all eyes were now on them.

Jae leaned slightly toward her, whispering:

"Just smile."

She did.

And that small gesture changed something.

It wasn't a confession shouted to the world.

It was recognition.

They were seen.

After the meeting, a few coworkers approached.

"Congratulations," one said softly.

"About… you two?" Mireya asked.

They nodded. "You deserve it."

She felt a flutter of happiness.

Jae took her hand as they walked away.

"See?" he said softly. "Nothing to fear."

"I feel like everyone's watching now," she admitted.

"Good," he said with a grin. "They should know."

That afternoon, Jae suggested they take a short walk outside.

The city was warm, sun slanting through the trees lining the streets.

"I want to ask you something," Jae said suddenly, stopping near a small fountain.

Mireya looked at him, curious.

"I know we've been careful," he said. "Slow, cautious. But now… I want to be known as yours. Not just here, but anywhere we go."

Her heart raced.

"That's…" she started, "scary."

"Yes," he admitted. "But worth it."

She paused, then smiled. "I like scary… if it's with you."

They walked quietly, hands brushing, occasionally intertwining fully.

At a nearby café, they stopped for tea.

The waiter looked at them with a polite smile.

"Is this… official?" he asked quietly.

Mireya laughed softly. "It is now."

Jae winked. "We're trying not to be mysterious anymore."

Later that evening, as they returned to her apartment, Mireya reflected on the day.

She had felt tension before.

Fear before.

But today… there was pride.

Confidence.

Strength in being seen.

Jae noticed her quiet mood.

"You okay?" he asked.

She smiled, leaning lightly against him.

"I'm more than okay," she said. "I'm… free."

"Free?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yes," she said. "Free from hiding. Free from fear. Free to choose us openly."

He smiled softly. "Then let's celebrate freedom."

At her door, they paused.

"Promise me something," Jae said, gently brushing her hair behind her ear.

"What?"

"No more silence when something matters," he said.

"I promise," she replied.

"And…" he continued, "I won't hide either. Whatever comes—good or bad—we face together."

"I like that promise," she said, resting her forehead against his.

He kissed her softly.

Not a question. Not a test.

Just affirmation.

Later that night, Mireya wrote in her notebook:

Being seen isn't about approval. It's about truth. And truth has never felt this good.

She closed it with a calm smile.

Not a victory over anyone else.

A victory for herself.

And for them.
