Chapter 30
Lina's POV
Laurisa's gown flashed silver-white as she bolted toward the grand doors, her movements impossibly fast for someone wearing court heels.
"She's escaping!" someone shouted.
But she didn't make it far.
A guard cut across her path, his claws already half-shifted. Laurisa's hand flew from her sleeve.
"Don't—!" I yelled, knowing exactly what she was about to do. But it was too late
A pulse of black energy exploded from her palm. It slammed into the guard's chest with a sickening crack. He was hurled backward like a rag doll, crashing into a table of crystal goblets that shattered across the floor.
Screams filled the hall. Black magic was one thing people were always afraid of, it was sick and twisted, and people who could use it were very rare.
"Black magic…" Louis breathed.
