Chapter 27 - The Surprise Attack on Riverrun

Balls of dragonfire swept across the Lannister positions on the north bank.

The palisades, originally intended to defend against cavalry charges, were utterly useless against the powerful flames, reduced to charred remains in an instant.

Some of the archers hiding behind the fortifications were scorched by the dragonfire, emitting agonizing screams.

The Lannister soldiers behind them were terrified by this sight, but they soon ceased to be afraid.Because the cavalrymen following closely behind covered their horses' eyes with blinders and charged straight through the burnt-out fence, ending the lives of those soldiers with a single thrust of their lances.

"Fire!"

"Stop them, spearmen! Form ranks quickly!"

The Lannister officers were still directing the battle, but they were quickly targeted by Robb.

Whoosh!

A broken piece of stone suddenly appeared in Robb's hand, and then shot out at an extremely fast speed, shattering the helmet of the officer who was still commanding, the powerful impact directly causing his mind to reel and he fainted on the ground.[Beast Claw]

[Quickly releases sharp stone shards, can be chained. It is said that before the Erdtree, stones were the first weapons of beasts who sought wisdom.]

This is one of the Beast Incantations. Although its power is not comparable to Lightning Spear or Dragon Incantations, its advantage lies in its speed, with almost negligible startup animation, making it a very practical incantation.

When one officer falls, another takes command."Get those lazy pigs in the back up, grab your spears, don't..."

Before he could finish, a dull thud sounded above his head, and he fell to the ground.

One after another, people quickly realized that anyone who dared to give orders would be the next to fall, and for a moment, all the noble officers fell silent.

Robb glanced at the battlefield. The camp in front had been directly scattered by his men, and the camp behind seemed to have just realized that a night raid was underway and was waking up."We need to strike before they can react, we can't let these people form a spear wall, otherwise our cavalry won't have any advantage."

"Follow me!"

Robb roared, leading more than four hundred cavalrymen, setting fires as they charged towards the camp that had not yet reacted.

The further in they went, the more war fortifications were built.

Those were all preparations for attacking Riverrun.Robb directly conjured a dragon's head, spewing flames at any siege structure he saw, but each burst of flame was very brief, stopping as soon as he saw it catch fire.

Because releasing dragonfire constantly consumed mental energy, Robb was not yet strong enough to sustain such a powerful dragon prayer for long.

"Is that a dragon?!"

"Am I still asleep? I think I just saw a dragon's head spewing flames?!"

The Lannister soldiers who had just emerged from the camp thought they had woken up too abruptly and were hallucinating. If I'm not asleep, then I've traveled back over three hundred years to the time when the Targaryen family conquered the continent riding dragons?

Before they could react, the cavalry charging with torches took their lives.

"Run!"

"Help, save me!"

"Seven gods above, save us!"

Seeing the scene before them, the other Lannister soldiers had no will to fight.

Some of them came out to fight without even wearing their armor properly, but after seeing the terrifying scene, they lost all will to fight.Robb burned most of the siege equipment, and his mental strength was also exhausted. He no longer had the strength to cast prayer spells and could only wait for his mental strength to slowly recover.

So Robb drew two longswords from his back and began to fight hand-to-hand with the Lannister defenders.

"Surrender and you won't be killed!!"

"Surrender and you won't be killed!!"

Robb galloped on horseback, followed closely by more than two hundred wolf riders, cutting down any soldiers who stood in their way, riding back and forth through the camp on the north bank.Shouting slogans of surrender and promising no killings to break the enemy's will to fight, the camp of several thousand men was instantly plunged into complete chaos, with fires erupting everywhere and people fleeing in all directions.

...

"Damn it, there's trouble on the north bank!"

The Lannister's west bank officer, Count Andros Brax, saw the flames soaring on the north bank, the continuous screams, and the occasional roars of strange beasts, and his heart sank.

Jaime had gone to battle with three thousand cavalry, and had been missing for several days now. Many of the returning cavalrymen said that Jaime had been captured alive by Robb. These nobles were already on edge because of this matter, and now seeing the north bank under attack, they were thrown into utter chaos.

"Follow me to reinforce the north bank! They don't have many people. Holding the north bank's fortifications will win us the battle!"

Count Andros immediately gathered his men and led two thousand across the river.

In the darkness of night, the river was turbulent. Halfway across, Andros began to regret his decision, feeling he had been too hasty.

He then splashed water on his face to clear his head.Regardless of whether it's reckless or not, the north shore must be supported. Otherwise, if the north shore is breached, our own and the east shore's forces will be split, and it will be easy for the enemy to break through us.

"Kill!"

Creak, creak.

Whoosh!

Just then, on the walls of Riverrun, the originally quiet night suddenly became noisy.

Hundreds of torches lit up simultaneously, and the creaking catapults were already loaded.

Accompanied by the shouts of the Riverrun defenders, huge stones smashed into the Lannister army still crossing the river.

It's a trap!Andros Brax felt a chill in his heart.

But that wasn't the worst of it, because he then heard a deafening roar of battle cries.

"Follow me! Surround them on three sides, leave one side open! Let them run, kill!"

"For the Young Wolf!"

"For Lord Eddard!"

"For Riverrun!"

On the west bank, Lord Jason Mallister, who had been lying in ambush for a long time, saw that everything was going according to plan, so he led his two thousand men and charged up, launching a fierce attack on the Lannister army on the west bank!

Creak, clang! The city gate to the west of Riverrun opened, and the drawbridge, which had been suspended for days, was finally lowered. The invigorated Riverlands army, led by Lord Lefford, charged out as well.

The two forces formed a pincer movement, encircling and suppressing the Lannister army on the west bank, and shouts rang out everywhere!

  It's over!

  It's all over!

Lord Andros saw the army left to guard the west bank collapsing, countless soldiers surrendering without even fighting, and several of his own ships being smashed by stones from the catapults.

Fortunately, he wouldn't have to worry about these trivial matters for much longer.Because he saw a huge rock flying towards him.

His ship was going to capsize.
