Chapter 28 - Tyroshi Cavalry

After a night of arduous and decisive battle, the Lannister army besieging Riverrun was utterly defeated by Robb.

The Lannister forces on the north and west banks were slaughtered, with most soldiers either fleeing or surrendering, and those who dared to resist were all turned into wronged souls.

Initially, the Lannister garrison originally stationed on the west bank attempted to form a shield wall to resist, but the Riverrun garrison, led by Lord Tytos Blackwood, attacked from behind, resulting in an even more tragic situation on the west bank than on the north bank.As for the Eastern Shore army's continued inaction, Ser Forel Prester, who remained behind, saw that the situation was irreversible and led his four thousand men in an orderly and safe retreat.

A Tyroshi sellsword leading the free riders cut down the Lannister banner and defected to the Stark side.

After the battle, Ser Brynden Blackfish, weary, reported the previous night's battle to Robb: "Lord Robb, Earl Andros's ship was hit by our catapults. Because he was wearing heavy armor, he never resurfaced after the ship capsized.""We lost two hundred men, killed over two thousand enemies, captured more than three thousand prisoners, and seized countless supplies, which we are urgently arranging people to inventory."

Robb felt somewhat weary; the blood from the night's bloody battle had yet to dry on him.

But he couldn't rest yet. As the leader of a company, he still had much to deal with.

"Has my uncle Edmure Tully been found?"

The Blackfish's tone finally lightened considerably: "He has been found. He and a group of Riverlands nobles were held in the same prisoner-of-war camp, though he has lost a bit of weight."Robb nodded. "Get them settled in Riverrun first, I'll see them later. Now, send that Tyroshi sellsword to me."

Tyrosh was a Free City, but it didn't belong to Westeros, it was part of the Disputed Lands, a port city known for its mercenaries and slaves.

It seemed Jaime the Kingslayer had specifically recruited these free riders for this campaign.

It's just that I didn't expect these people to lack the will to fight. Seeing the Lannister family about to collapse, they actually changed their tune and defected to Robb.Facing these cavalrymen who came to his door, Robb naturally had no reason to refuse them, but the loyalty of this group was highly questionable, and subduing them would not be a simple task.

The mercenaries who had cut down the Lannister banners were soon brought before Robb.

This rider had a plain face, but his beard was peculiar, not only long but also a rare grey-green.

As Robb sized him up, the green-bearded mercenary was also observing the Young Wolf: blue eyes, auburn hair, and a sturdy build."He's no different from ordinary people. Legend has it that this young wolf lord can transform into a dragon and sweep across the battlefield. I wonder if it's true."

"Regardless of what he thought in his heart, as a defeated general, Greenbeard still knelt on one knee and offered his loyalty to his new boss: 'My name is Perro, but people call me Greenbeard. I represent three hundred riders and six hundred steeds of Tyrosh, and we are willing to fight for the new king.'"

"Robb stood under a tree, looking down at Greenbeard: 'I've heard that Tyroshis are known for their greed.'"

"Greenbeard felt a chill run down his spine. This was a difficult question to answer, so he could only remain silent."Robb changed the subject. "Actually, greed isn't necessarily a bad thing. People always need to want something. If everyone were a saint, without desires or needs, how would I get them to work for me?"

Greenbeard breathed a sigh of relief, feeling much more at ease. "Rest assured, my lord, the Lannister commanders are too foolish. We saw that they were no match for you, so we joined your ranks."

"Is that so? It seems you have no qualms about changing allegiances."

Greenbeard's newly settled heart leaped back into his throat.Having one's life in someone else's hands is like being a puppet at their mercy.

"No, no, we..."

Robb interrupted Greenbeard, "Actually, this is good. We provide the money, you provide the labor. As long as we abide by the rules of the deal, everyone's happy, right?"

"Yes, yes, yes..."

Greenbeard felt like a marionette, being manipulated up and down, his mood swinging with the other party's words.

Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Greenbeard sensed that this young man seemed to possess methods beyond his years.Robb walked up to Greenbeard, reached out and stroked the top of his head, smearing the undried blood all over Greenbeard's head. Greenbeard didn't dare say a word.

"Now that you've sold your life to me, take me to see the Tyroshi warriors."

Greenbeard breathed a sigh of relief, finally getting through this ordeal.

Robb knew that the loyalty of these mercenaries would definitely not be high, but loyalty and a sense of honor could be cultivated later, it just depended on his methods.

Now that a third of the wolf riders had been lost, Robb also needed to replenish his cavalry, and these Tyroshi cavalrymen were perfect for replenishing the ranks. Moreover, this Greenbeard and his cavalry are from the Eastern Continent and are very familiar with it, so there will definitely be times when they can be used in the future.

After seeing the Tyroshi mercenaries, Robb was somewhat surprised. The overall quality of these mercenaries was quite good, and each one met Robb's rigid requirements for wolf cavalry.

But this is also reasonable.

These people crossed the sea to Westeros to be mercenaries on the battlefield. If they weren't confident in their strength, they wouldn't dare to do so.With these three hundred Tyroshi riders, Robb's wolf cavalry expanded to over five hundred, but their combat effectiveness might not be as good as when they were just three hundred strong.

"Let them get used to each other with the original wolf cavalry for a while, and then train them. Their combat effectiveness should increase rapidly."

Greenbeard also brought Robb intelligence: the Lannister army on the east bank numbered four thousand, two thousand spearmen and two thousand archers. They were probably heading to join Lord Tywin on the Kingsroad.

Lord Tywin has a force of over twenty thousand, and they are currently rushing here non-stop.Robb smiled. "I still have fifteen thousand men snapping at Tywin's heels, and he's probably still far from here."

Greenbeard was startled by Robb's words. This Young Wolf had defeated a Lannister force of over ten thousand with less than three thousand men. If he had another ten thousand, wouldn't the Lannisters be doomed to defeat?

Robb ignored Greenbeard. The siege of Riverrun had just been lifted, and Tywin still controlled most of the Riverlands. He had much to do.

"Ser Brynden, come into the city with me.""See how Duke Tully is doing now."
