Robb doesn't have time to worry about what's happening back in King's Landing right now; he has an important battle to fight.
Like the Battle of the Whispering Wood, the enemy's army still outnumbers his own, and they have built complete fortifications, making it unlikely that he can replicate the miracle of ending the battle with a cavalry charge.
It's time for a head-on fight and commanding the troops in battle.Robb mentally assessed his current state. Although he was strong, this world didn't have any Tropicana Orange to help him quickly recover his mana during battle. He could only wait for the slow passage of time to recover.
Otherwise, if Robb could constantly spew dragon breath, any army would be nothing more than toys in front of him.
The idea of enchanting the army on a large scale wasn't very good, because the enchantment didn't last long, usually only a few minutes. While a large-scale battle often lasts a whole day, it's impossible to stop in the middle of combat to cast enchantment prayers on friendly troops; the cost-effectiveness is too low.
Robb still felt that following the path of Xiang Yu was better: "It still depends on individual bravery. As long as you perform inhumanly and completely shatter the enemy's morale in the shortest amount of time, you can win."
Back then, Xiang Yu could fight against an army of hundreds of thousands with just tens of thousands of men, and he could do the same.
"My lord, Earl Jason has arrived."Ser Brynden Blackfish entered Robb's tent, accompanied by an older nobleman, Lord Jason Mallister, who had come from Seagard to offer his support.
Lord Jason was a tall, lean man with a clean-shaven face, brown hair streaked with white, and fierce blue-grey eyes.
His face was gaunt and sharp-featured, perhaps from the forced march, and he wore indigo armor inlaid with silver, his helm adorned with eagle's wings. He greeted Robb politely, "Lord Robb Stark, to win such a brilliant victory at such a young age truly puts us old Riverlands codgers to shame."
Robb rose to greet him, this man being far more trustworthy than the old weasel of the Twins, "Lord Mellyster, you flatter me. Those are just empty titles, the past is like fleeting clouds in the sky, not worth dwelling on."
Jason Mallister gave Robb an approving look. To have accomplished something as significant as capturing the Kingslayer, and still maintain such humility at such a young and impetuous age, was truly rare. When I arrived, there were many hedge knights and defeated troops from Ser Jaime's army looking to join us. I spent some time incorporating them into our ranks, and now we have over two thousand five hundred men.
Robb felt that this was enough men. He went to the map and began to observe the situation at Riverrun.
Because it was located at the confluence of two rivers, Riverrun was surrounded by rivers on all sides. Jaime could only divide his forces into three parts, stationed to the west, east, and north of Riverrun, and this was Robb's opportunity."Actually, we're at an advantage right now," Ser Brynden Blackfish analyzed, pointing at the map. "Jaime is your prisoner, they're leaderless, and their morale must be in chaos. The combined forces of us and the Riverrun garrison outnumber any three of their detachments."
Jason Mallister remained silent, wanting to hear Robb's tactical plan.
Robb pondered for a moment, deciding to use the simplest tactic in warfare: a surprise attack combined with a feint.
"We'll launch a full-scale attack at nightfall. Lord Jason, allocate all the cavalry in your ranks to me. How many men are we talking about?""A hundred or two, their fighting strength is decent enough."
Robb nodded. "Good. I'll take four hundred riders to raid the enemy on the north bank tonight. Once you see the signal fire, attack the forces on the west bank with all your men."
The Blackfish didn't doubt Robb. Before, Robb had led their force of less than three hundred men and broken through Jaime's three thousand cavalry. This night raid on the camp shouldn't be a problem.
"What about the Riverrun garrison? How should they be arranged?"Robb had already thought it through: "Once I begin night raids on the north bank, the armies to the east and west will definitely cross the river to reinforce them. The garrison of Riverrun will be responsible for dealing with those reinforcements, attacking them mid-crossing. The Lannister army is no match for the Riverrun garrison."
With the plan arranged, everyone went into a state of readiness.
Ser Brynden Blackfish led men out to clear out nearby scouts, preventing the enemy from learning about the movements of their large army, while also sending messages to the garrison inside Riverrun.
...
Night fell quickly, and Robb, on horseback, set off with over four hundred cavalry in a grand procession.Tonight is also a full moon.
Robb and the cavalry waited quietly on the north bank.
After an unknown amount of time, the caw of a raven came from afar.
This was the code between Robb and Earl Jason; as long as the other side had completed their deployment, they would send a scout to inform Robb.
Seeing the campfires of the troops stationed on the north bank extinguished, Robb put on his helmet and picked up his longsword.
Behind him, the wolf cavalry silently picked up their lances in unison. Most of the cavalry sent by Count Jason to support were somewhat panicked. Many of them were stragglers who had just suffered a defeat. If they hadn't heard that Robb had taken down James's three thousand men with just three hundred, many of them would have already run away.
Did they really think they could attack a legion of thousands with fortifications with just a few hundred cavalry?
What's the difference between that and suicide?
But when they saw Robb's firm eyes and the grim atmosphere of the wolf riders, a strange confidence grew in their hearts. They felt that following such a leader and team, they could always win."The enemy has rested, now is the perfect time to put our swords to their throats. Follow me, charge!"
Robb's voice, muffled by his helmet, still carried clearly to everyone.
Awooo!
Under the full moon, accompanied by Grey Wind's long howl, the sound of hooves thundered!
The Lannister army's patrolling soldiers on the north bank quickly noticed the anomaly. A soldier immediately fumbled for the horn beside him, preparing to sound the alarm.
Shhhhk!A spear of golden lightning instantly appeared in the soldier's chest, paralyzing him completely. His face was filled with confusion: why couldn't he move?
After the soldier fell, the patrolmen behind him still wanted to reach for the horn, but Robb immediately took their lives with a second lightning spear from afar.
After several more times, the patrolling soldiers realized that the horn was a death trap, best not even to glance at it.
So the few remaining soldiers could only use the most primitive method of warning: shouting.
"Enemy attack!"
"The wolves are coming!"The shouts couldn't spread throughout the entire camp in a short time.
Without the warning of horns, a third of the garrison on the north bank failed to wake up from their sleep in time.
Many soldiers ran out of the tents closest to Robb's army, all awakened by the sound of hooves.
"To the defenses, attack!"
"Cover! Where the hell are the archers? Get over here!"
The command system of the north bank's defense hadn't completely collapsed; there were still mid-level officers trying to fight back.Robb took the lead, watching the wooden cheval de frise on the road, leaping high from the back of his horse, and then conjuring up the phantom of a giant dragon.
This time it was the roar of a fire dragon.
