Night had fallen on the manor. Rosy couldn't fall asleep. She knew someone was spying on her. She got up, put on a shirt that was much too big for her, and walked barefoot down the corridor. She sensed a presence.
"Come out, I know you're here." She said, in a low but firm voice.
A soft laugh answered him.
"Impressive. Even after a coma, your reflexes are still sharp." A figure stepped towards her. With brown hair, a smile too charming to be true, and bright green eyes full of mischief.
"I am Kai," he said. "And you must be the famous miracle survivor from Victors."
"Do you work for him?" Rosy asked.
"You could say I only work with him when it suits me." He starts to approach her with his hands in his pockets.
"I was curious to see what the famous Rose Guard looked like."
"That name means nothing to me," she replied.
"Oh really? Strange. It's mentioned in your file though."
"Why are you telling me this?" she asked.
"Because I hate secrets" "And Victor is hiding some too." He took a small USB key out of his pocket.
"This contains what he erased from your memory. But you will only be able to see it under one condition."
"What do you want?" she asked. He smiled and moved even closer, too close.
"I want a kiss from you." Rosy laughed coldly.
"You're joking."
"Not at all. Give me a kiss, and this key is yours."
She stared at him for a long time, wondering if it was a provocation or a trap.
"Very well, I accept," she murmured. She placed her hand on the back of his neck, pulled him towards her, and kissed him forcefully, as if promising and threatening him. She pulled back, and he looked at her, surprised.
"Wow! Well... I understand why Victor kept wanting you."
"Give me the key now." "Calm down, it's in your room. In the right-hand drawer. But you have to hurry."
"Why?" Kai gave him a smile, but his expression darkened.
"Because someone else has already found you." No sooner had they spoken the words than a shard of glass flew behind them. Bullets whistled past. Kai pushed her to the ground and shouted:
"Run, Rosy!"
