Chapter 25 - Being Human-> Battling the wraith

The ghostly presence was completely manifested in front of Diego's party, Diego gazed intently at the ghostly presence as if to see if he was hiding something while trying to hide his killing intent from the intruder.

The wraith was bare and would be completely naked if not for the glowing red aura that surrounded his torso that was gradually growing to cover his backdrop.

The wraith slowly approached Diego's party, looking at them like they were beneath him, while saying proudly:

[Praise God Darkovia, what do we have here, a pair of pure bloods?!]

[Damn I haven't seen your kind around this parts for a long long time.]

[You are young too, I can't believe what would have happened to you if you had met anyone other than me]

[Anyway, now that we are together mind telling me the reason for your visit.]

Diego was a bit relieved to hear the wraith wasn't going to attack. He calmed down for a bit before saying:

[We do not need to answer your questions, half blood.]

Diego felt a strong urge to call the wraith scum but when he felt the aura coming from the wraith he was a bit able to measure its power gauge and then he was sure hadn't reached that power level.

The wraith looked annoyed for a second before continuing to display an arrogant behavior to the soul beings that were gathered around him. He looked around for a while before laying his eyes and felt the presence of the elf some of the soul beings were guarding. He contorted his ghostly face to form a smile before saying:

[It seems you've prepared a sacrifice but I don't know what is stopping me from taking the prisoner from your feeble hands.]

A few skeletons charged forward to form a defensive circle around the elf while the remaining skeleton liches and knights assumed battle formation.

Seeing that the skeletons were prepared to fight him, the wraith laughed softly before facing the direction of the makeshift formation the skeletons put up.

The wraith calmly drifted into the front lines, raised his transparent leg up before stomping the ground with a burning red aura that slowly materialized from the sole of his leg to the knee.

*WHAM!*

The formation the skeletons quickly concocted was swiftly scrambled with pieces of body gear strewn around and the bodies of the skeletons scattered around the land, they were quickly littered with cracked bones and were in so much pain some of them could not stand still.

The only people that was not affected was the elf and Diego.

A few seconds before Diego's party was jumbled up, Diego quickly stepped to the front of Hope not because he wanted to protect her from the shockwave of the wraith deadly hit but because he didn't want the plan he had concocted to go to waste. So he stood before Hope searching within his memories for a way to kill one of "Death's bastard sons".

He was finally able to remember one of his old memory about how they had taken down a hoard of ghosts in the past. He used that knowledge to prepare himself for the battle that was about to happen between him and the wraith.

The wraith smiled crookedly when he discovered Diego was still left standing, and was not willing to give the elf freely. He then stepped forward.

Diego remembered a banned technique that was thought by the legends to use to control the cursed energy gathered in the body of the ghosts. Diego performed a stance while pushing his left hand to the front and the right hand to the back, the same was continued a second time only this time, the right hand was aimed at the front while the left hand was aimed at the back and this continued changing vice versa until...

After a while, a faint magic circle that was outlined in a purple pigment slowly materialized and was floating in the air a few meters above ground and a little bit close to Diego's chest. The magic circle was gathering the energy contained in the wraith and was infusing them into Diego's body.

The energy was a bit harmful to Diego and that was why his patched skin was slowly crumbling away. Meanwhile, although the wraith was greatly weakened he continued to step forward one step at a time until he got

to the place Diego was standing and struck him with a deadly blast of red aura gathered around his hand. Diego barely evaded it as there was a thin yet deep dark mark of the line the wraith aimed for laying diagonally from his face to the tip of his right hand. He had quickly stopped the technique at the last second to concentrate on fully evading the attack with minimal injury.

Diego had a face filled with fear as he ordered his officials to run away from that place. He also grabbed Hope and proceeded to escape the wraith in short irregular bursts of speed but no matter where he ran it seemed the wraith could foretell the future and was always waiting for him when he stopped. Fortunately for him any time the wraith proceeded to attack, he was fast enough to quickly escape the attack.

That was until he made the unfortunate mistake of being backed to a corner. Diego contemplated speeding up outside the narrow yet long hole he found himself but when he saw the wraith reaching for him his shoulders slumped and he could only move backwards as the wraith slowly approached him.

Diego glared at the wraith as he approached the end of the enclosed hole, the wraith drifted slowly to meet Diego and then prepared to aim his transparent yet deadly hand at the face of Diego. Diego stared directly at the hand expecting to be destroyed, Hope flinched before closing her eyes.

The hand had almost pierced Diego's face before it was separated from the wraith. Diego was confused about what was going on, he stopped looking at the deadly wraith hand before staring into the horizon.

Diego saw something that made him gasp softly while a soft smile was formed on his rough face.
