Chapter 29 - Being Human -> Burning up

Some meters above a large body of water, a large snake and a creature with female human body and pointed ears, dressed in rags and holding a piece of pointed wooden stick was closing its eyes while being gripped tightly by the falling snake.

Immediately Love closed her eyes a small bright creature with an amber aura slowly entered into Love's body, Love didn't feel anything as she had just accepted her death, a few moments passed before her body began to heat up slowly, Love felt the heat but it was too small to have her direct her full attention to it since she believed that there was nothing that could save her now.

The heat started rising dramatically and Love began to sweat, the snake also started to wriggle it's tail around her body vigorously, it was then Love decided to open her eyes and what she saw shocked her.

An aura of flame was all around her but she wasn't scorched or burnt, instead she just felt hot or warm and the person that was burnt or was burning up was the giant snake, the heat continued to gather up and after sometime the snake was forced to release her.

Love was overjoyed for just a moment before her painful reality set in, in a normal situation if a person was grabbed by a snake and the snake was slowly squeezing away the life of the person, the person would want nothing other than to be free but given her unique situation the snake was gripping her tightly while also plunging to its death although she was free she was also falling to her death along with the snake.

After the snake released her, the tail of the snake was shaking violently it seemed the snake didn't like how hot the flames were so it was shaking its tail around trying to adapt to the heat. Love was still contemplating what to do when the tail shook around her direction, she was too late to react as the tail was slammed across her face shaking her violently, she lost a few things she was carrying like her wooden spear, some pieces of clothing material and things she used to sew, Willow's letter to her and a long rope she used to climb trees.

She had almost lost her tent and her map, before she reached out to them, holding them tightly, Love also tried not to think too much about the situation she was in right now but it was very difficult for her because her situation had changed once again, her trajectory had been changed due to the violent wriggling of the snake and although she was a bit relieved she was far away from the fearsome snake, she was still falling.

Love quickly looked around to study her new surroundings, it seemed she could see a flat ground, Love quickly had a dreadful premonition that she wouldn't be able to land safely and she would go splat on the ground. She started looking around in order to find something that could cushion her fall but there was no soft patch just hard dry land.

There was a large splash sound and it seemed the snake had plunged into the water sending water splashing around and making it seem rain had started to fall, the shockwaves of the decent shook Love farther still while pulling up pieces of earth to the surface . There was a slight hurricane, wind blew here and there until Love seemed to be heading straight into a strong big tree that had a considerable size, a few fruits and wide branches.

There was no time to think so Love quickly dropped what she was holding and aimed for one of the branches above her holding it with all her might. At first it seemed she would swing off the tree but after swinging around violently which made her feel a little nauseous and dizzy, the swinging stopped and soon after the nauseousness stopped too

After she stopped swinging completely she grabbed hold of the branch and performed a little swing of her own, a light acrobatic back-flip was done, since she wasn't that much of a gymnastic back on earth her landing wasn't as fit as it should be so she when her legs were approaching the branch she coiled them around the bottom of the branch while her arm was coiled at the forefront of the branch thereby allowing her to slide a little bit roughly on to the ridge in between the branch and the trunk.

It was a long way down the tree but she had a lot of practice since she had stayed in a hellish world for the better part of a week constantly hunting, setting traps, cooking, watching out for danger, spying and setting up camps. So her decent off the tree was roughly smooth, sometimes she made some mistakes like losing her grip on some branches or her foot slipping in certain areas of the tree but all in all she had safely descended off the large tree.

She heaved a sigh of relief while remembering how while her trap had safely been executed and how she was also trapped by her prey/predator, how she was slowing plunging into the water together with the snake, how she had started burning up.

Come to think of it, how had she started burning up, the whole scenario felt like a story she read somewhere on earth about a burning bush that had been burning but the leaves were not blacked and they were still green despite the fact the tree was burning.

She wondered whether she had become pyrokinetic, so she tried willing fire into her hands but the only thing that came out of her body was steam, after trying a few other things and hoping to bring out the fire in her, she then concluded that maybe she was out of juice.

Love had a theory that maybe this was like another world where there were magical beings and maybe she was becoming a magical being but she still had a lot of questions unanswered about her powers like: How had she gotten them?, Why did she have fire powers?, Did other people have powers?, Did Willow have powers?, What would she have to do to be able to use her powers again? and many other questions.

Actually for that last question, it seemed she had an answer for that because she was very very hungry, before she descended the tree she had plucked a few fruits from the tree into the ground. She swiftly went to grab her tent and map before proceeding to a nearby stream to wash the fruits.

She was grateful she hadn't plunged to her death along with the snake but she still had one question nagging at her and her suspicion only grew when she checked her map to find out there was nowhere that looked like where she was in her map, she couldn't keep quiet anymore and finally asked with a stifled expression:

"Where am I?"
