Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Day Santa Got Shot

Barfi woke up in his tiny room above the cafรฉ ๐Ÿ›๏ธโ˜• and stretched like a dying cat ๐Ÿ˜ต๐Ÿˆ.Ceiling fan creaked. Morning light leaked through dusty curtains ๐ŸŒค๏ธ.

He washed his face ๐Ÿšฟ, brushed his teeth ๐Ÿชฅ, and stared at himself in the cracked mirror.

"Today," he muttered seriously,"I will study properly." ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ”ฅ

Like every day.

Downstairs, he unlocked the cafรฉ door ๐Ÿ”‘, switched on the lights ๐Ÿ’ก, and the bell above the entrance jingled softly ๐Ÿ””.Before starting the coffee machine, he clicked on the small TV near the counter ๐Ÿ“บ.

The volume blasted instantly.

"๐Ÿšจ BREAKING NEWS ๐ŸšจA museum was robbed last night!"

Barfi froze mid-step โ˜•โœ‹.

The reporter continued,"An elderly man dressed as Santa Claus ๐ŸŽ… stole a historical treasure map ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ and was shot in the buttock ๐Ÿ‘ while escaping."

CCTV footage rolled.

The old man ran in dramatic slow motion ๐ŸŒ, shouting,"HO HO NOOO!" ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐ŸŽ…before tripping over a trash can ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ.

Barfi leaned closer, eyes narrowing ๐Ÿ‘€.

That run.That posture.Thatโ€ฆ stupidity.

It looked familiar.

He shook his head quickly."Impossible. My boss is dumb ๐Ÿคกโ€ฆ but not that dumb."

โ˜• A NORMAL MORNING (SORT OF) โ˜•

Customers slowly filled the cafรฉ ๐ŸŒ….

๐ŸŽ’ Students occupied the window seats.๐Ÿ’ผ An office worker ordered his usual triple-shot espresso.๐Ÿšด A delivery guy placed his helmet on the counter.

The bell jingled again ๐Ÿ””.

A little girl with pigtails ๐Ÿ‘ง๐ŸŽ€ ran inside, dragging her mother's hand. She came every morning before school.

She ran straight to Barfi, eyes sparkling โœจ.

"Where is Funny Grandpa?""I want his stories! Yesterday he said he beat a shark in arm-wrestling!" ๐Ÿฆˆ๐Ÿ’ช

Barfi smiled awkwardly ๐Ÿ˜…."Funny Grandpa isโ€ฆ not here today."

She frowned."Why? Is he sleeping in the dustbin again?" ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ด

Her mother laughed nervously ๐Ÿ˜ฌ."I think she believes everything he says."

Barfi sighed softly."He went on a trip."

The girl gasped dramatically ๐Ÿ˜ฒ."A treasure trip?? He said he's a treasure hunter!" ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฐ

Barfi nearly dropped the spoon ๐Ÿฅ„๐Ÿ’ฅ.

He tells kids this nonsense tooโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ˜ต EVERYONE MISSES WALTER ๐Ÿ˜ต

The questions never stopped.

๐Ÿ‘ต "Without Walter, this cafรฉ feels empty! I miss being called 'Danger Grandma'!"๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŽ“ "Bro, did he steal my chewing gum again? He said it was evidence!"๐Ÿง” "Tell Walter he still owes me five dollars from 1992!"

Barfi nodded through everything ๐Ÿ™‚.

Inside, fear slowly crawled up his spine ๐Ÿ.

The Santa costume from the TV replayed againโ€ฆ and againโ€ฆ ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿ“บ

๐Ÿ’ฅ NIGHTTIME DISASTER ๐Ÿ’ฅ

Night fell ๐ŸŒ™.

Barfi was wiping the last table ๐Ÿงฝ whenโ€”

BANG! ๐Ÿ’ฅ

The cafรฉ door burst open.

Walter Blue stood there ๐Ÿšช, leaning on the frame, breathing heavily ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ, clutching his backside ๐Ÿ‘.

Barfi dropped the mop."SIR! WHAT HAPPENED!?" ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Walter puffed his chest proudly."Doctorโ€ฆ I got shot." ๐Ÿ˜Œ

Barfi screamed,"IN CANADA!?" ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ’€

Walter nodded."Yes. In the butt." ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ”ซ

A couple at the last table gasped ๐Ÿ˜จ.

The man whispered,"This is why we should've eaten at McDonald's." ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ’”

Barfi rushed forward."Sir, sitโ€”no! DON'T sit! Just stand!" ๐Ÿซจ

Walter winced."They shot me for my Santa performance." ๐ŸŽ…๐ŸŽญ

Barfi stared hard."You were the Santa on TV."

Walter smiled proudly ๐Ÿ˜."Yes! They filmed me!"

"THAT WAS CCTV!" ๐Ÿ“น๐Ÿ˜ก

"Oh," Walter nodded."That explains the lighting." ๐Ÿ’ก

๐Ÿฉบ DESI EMERGENCY SURGERY ๐Ÿฉบ

Upstairs, there was no medical kit โŒ.

So Barfi improvised like a true desi survivor ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ณ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

๐Ÿฅ„ Kitchen spoon๐Ÿ’ง Hot water in a steel bowl๐Ÿง‚ Salt๐Ÿด Fork๐Ÿงป Towel๐Ÿ™ And a prayer strong enough to shake heaven

Walter screamed before surgery even started ๐Ÿ˜ฑ.

A neighbor shouted from outside,"IS SOMEONE DYING!?" ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Barfi yelled back,"Minor surgery!" ๐Ÿ˜ค

Walter screamed louder,"HE'S REMOVING MY SPINE!" ๐Ÿ’€

Ten chaotic minutes later โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ’ฅ, Barfi pulled the bullet out with the spoon.

Walter collapsed dramatically ๐Ÿ›๏ธ."Doctorโ€ฆ once again, you saved a legend." ๐ŸŒŸ

Barfi wiped sweat ๐Ÿ˜“."Why do you do stupid things?"

Walter slowly pulled out a rolled paper ๐Ÿ“œ.

"The map. The treasure. Our destiny." ๐Ÿ—บ๏ธโœจ

Barfi stared."YOU GOT SHOT FOR THIS!?" ๐Ÿ˜ต

"No," Walter corrected calmly."I got shot for asking the guard if he wanted to join me." ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ”ซ

Barfi covered his face ๐Ÿคฆ.

"Pack your bag, Doctor," Walter said proudly."Tomorrowโ€ฆ treasure hunting." ๐Ÿดโ€โ˜ ๏ธ๐ŸŒ„

๐Ÿ”’ BASEMENT & MORNING ๐Ÿ”’

Walter crawled into the cafรฉ's hidden basement ๐Ÿ•ณ๏ธ.

"Wake me when treasure calls," he whispered. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Barfi locked the door."Please don't die." ๐Ÿ˜

"If I do," Walter replied faintly,"write 'LEGEND' on my grave." โšฐ๏ธโญ

Morning came ๐ŸŒž.

Barfi reopened the cafรฉ.

The part-timer, Sasha arrived ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ, chewing gum and tying her apron.

"Boss missing again?" ๐Ÿ˜

Barfi nodded."Yeah."

She shrugged."Cool. Less shouting today." ๐Ÿ˜Œ

๐Ÿƒ NO BUS MONEY ๐Ÿƒ

Barfi checked the time โŒš.

College in thirty minutes ๐Ÿ˜จ.

He grabbed his bag ๐ŸŽ’ and ran.

He had no money for the bus ๐Ÿ’ธโŒ.Running was the only option.

Shoes slapped the road ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ๐Ÿ”ฅ.Breath burned.Heart raced.

๐Ÿš“ THE POLICE KNOW ๐Ÿš“

A police car honked ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ“ข.

Officer Hank stepped out.

"Barfi. We need to talk."

Santa costume.Museum robbery.Shot in the butt.

Barfi acted innocent ๐Ÿ˜ถ.

Hank sighed."There's only one idiot capable of this. And he owns your cafรฉ."

"No proof," Hank admitted."That's why he's free."

Barfi looked straight at him."When I needed help, he was there. I don't leave people behind." ๐Ÿงโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿค

The walkie-talkie crackled ๐Ÿ“ป.

"This isn't over," Hank said, driving away.

๐Ÿ“š MIKO ๐Ÿ“š

Barfi reached college exhausted ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ and hungry ๐Ÿฝ๏ธโŒ.

In the library, whispers followed him ๐Ÿ‘€.

Thenโ€”

A lunchbox landed softly on his desk ๐Ÿฑโœจ.

Miko.

A short Japanese girl ๐Ÿ‡ฏ๐Ÿ‡ต, round cheeks, quiet eyes, calm presence.Small in height. Sharp in mind.

"Eat," she said softly."You forgot again." ๐Ÿฅบ

Warm rice ๐Ÿš.Egg ๐Ÿฅš.Vegetables ๐Ÿฅฌ.

Homemade. Made with care โค๏ธ.

She sat beside him."I don't like seeing you struggle alone."

For the first time that dayโ€ฆ

Barfi felt warm ๐Ÿ”ฅ.

Not treasure.Not adventure.

Just someone who cared.
