Chapter 22 - Chapter 21

Valen released her grasp from Lucas and awkwardly let out a calm laugh but her gaze trailed to Kaelvryn who wasn't pleased even in the slightest moment.

"You need to rest properly," Kaelvryn finally said calmly but his tone was definitely something else.

Valen bowed and left but Lucas couldn't keep his gaze away from her, "he's so fine," the words escaped his lips gently.

"What did you just say?" Kaelvryn tried to hide his jealousy but it slipped up in his tone.

"Oh you heard me," Lucas teased but Kaelvryn was taking his tease lightly.

"He's mine..." Kaelvryn finally said.

"Yes, I know, he's yours as guard," Lucas calmly replied.

"Don't tell me you're planning on flirting with him?" Kaelvryn's eyes twitched the moment the words escaped his lips.

Lucas shrugged, "who knows? Now if you'd excuse me, I need to rest a bit, it's been a long journey."

Lucas strutted out from the garden leaving Kaelvryn in the midst of confusion, he knew his friend swung both ways and had never had a problem with it until now.

Valen was his and there was no sharing and that was final but for some reason, he just couldn't come to terms with this new found feeling.

---

The next day Valen felt better than usual, her fever was finally gone and she was back to her normal self.

"No more shifting for now..." she muttered under her breath.

The moment she came out from her chambers, she bumped into a well toned body, she looked up slightly and saw Lucas, who a small smile on his face.

"Hello there..." he waved slightly.

Valen retreated slightly and bowed, "good morning to you, Lord Lucas."

"Oh please, drop the formalities, I don't really care just call me Lucas," he beamed with a huge smile on my face.

Valen nodded, "Lucas..." she stammered a bit, when she saw that small smile on his face she looked a bit relieved.

"So where are you heading to?" He said gently as he walked by her side.

"The training grounds, I need some exercise after being bed ridden for a while," she said calmly minding her words.

"Oh...yes, Kael told me how you were abducted by that wannabe princess,"

A small laugh almost escaped her lips but she kept it tight shut maintaining her posture, Lucas couldn't help but smile.

"You don't need to be upright with me, I'm not that brooding Kael, just relax..."

Valen nodded and they both walked side by side until they heard someone call out Valen's name.

"Valen..." the small voice echoed through the heavy walls if the palace.

They turned and saw Georgia sprinting down the halls, she stumbled and fell right into Valen's arms.

Lucas eyes darkened immediately at the sight but he managed to maintain himself.

"Oh...I'm so sorry, I'm always too clumsy," she arranged herself immediately around Valen, then her gaze went straight to Lucas who still had an angry gaze in his look.

She bowed immediately, "pardon my manners my Lord."

Lucas forced out a smile, "you can stand, you don't need to be sprinting down the hall, so what's the problem."

Georgia gulped then finally rose up and faced Valen, "I apologize once again, I went to chambers and found out that you were not there, I just wanted to give you a new batch of medications."

She handed out a batch of medicine, Valen took it from her hand and placed it inside his clothes, "thank you, now be careful, I'll see you later."

She nodded gently but the look in her eyes exposed her feelings to Lucas, she turned and left immediately, scrambling to her feet.

"Seems I have more competition than I thought," he muttered under his breath.

"Are there any problems?" Valen asked calmly.

"No...let's head to the grounds, shall we?"

Valen nodded and they made their way to the grounds.

The grounds were filled with men training, raw voices echoed through the air as the grounds vibrated under their feet.

"Ah..." Lucas let in a deep breath, "I've missed this."

The moment a couple of guards saw him, they bowed and others immediately followed, soon many were on their knees.

"Lord Lucas... welcome back," they said in unison.

"Rise please..."

They rose immediately and went back to sparring and training. Valen was a bit taken aback by who Lord Lucas was and why no one literally made mention of him.

"You must be wondering who I am right?" He leaned in and whispered in her ears sending cold shivers down her spine.

Valen retreated back a bit and nodded, Lucas let out a small laugh at her reaction then slightly pulled her cheek.

"Has anyone told you how cute you look?" His soft voice were soothing to the ear and crazily her heart skipped a beat.

She widened her eyes in shock especially as to how she was literally folding because of someone she just practically met. Maybe because she has never been treated this way before, that's why.

"Okay..." Lucas finally smiled pulling his hands away, "I'll stop teasing you but you need to stop making my heart flutter."

Valen literally froze in her spot, "huh...?" The word escaped her mouth before she could stop it.

"Okay, you're really adorable but thats not why we are here," his playful demeanor changed quickly but he still had a calm expression written all over him.

"Walk with me..."

Valen nodded and walked alongside him, "I was Commander General over this army but I stepped down because I needed a break."

Valen furrowed her brows, did he just say break or were her ears twitching? It must surely be good to be the King's best friend, she thought to herself.

"Why a break? Were you injured or sick?"

Lucas chuckled slightly, "of course not, I was neither, I was just a bit sick from the blood that were spilled on my hands and since most of the kingdoms had come to an agreement for peace, I just thought maybe I too needed a break."

"Oh..." Valen said calmly while nodding her head.

Then in a blink of an eye, Lucas caught an arrow with his bare hand amd slightly turned to crowd with a mischievous smirk on his face, "did you really have to test me now?"

The ground broke into a laughter then Lucas turned to Valen with a grin on his face, "would you spar with me?"
