Chapter 26 - Chapter 25

Georgia rose from her hiding spot and ran up to me, "are you okay?" She searched my body for any injuries but my mind was too placed on what I had read.

"We need to get back to the palace now..."

She nodded and followed me closely, the arrow still in my hand and the letter safely tucked where no one would see it.

"No one must know of this encounter, if they ask why we took little time, inform them we took a longer route," Valen whispered softly in Georgia's ears while they parted ways.

Valen walked hastily to the King's chamber bit the moment she arrived, guards were heavily guarding the room.

The moment she walked closely to the chambers the guards stopped her, she threw a glare to them.

"We apologize but we were given strict orders not toet anyone inside the King's chamber until the meeting was concluded," a guard spoke up.

"Who is he meeting with?" Her voice was stern.

The guards exchanged worried glances and gulped, none dared to say a word.

"If you do not answer me this minute, I'll be forced to barge into the chambers," she warned, her eyes dark with anger.

The minute the guards were about to speak up, Lord Valor, Lord Damien and Lord Andros all came out with a mischievous grin on their faces and behind them a face she hadn't seen in a while, Lord Aldridge.

"You dare defy us," Lord Andros spoke calmly there was this spite that was in his tone.

Valen remained calm, "of course not, I was shocked that I was restricted entrance to the King's very own chambers."

"Where were you when we arrived at first..." Lord Damien walked slowly towards Valen with a tight expression on his face, "let me guess, toying with that healer girl."

Valen folded her fists and slowly turned her face towards Lord Damien, "my movements are only reported to the King, slandering me would do you no use."

Lord Damien raised his hand to hit Valen but an arrow tore across his robe, they all turned to where the arrow came from, a frightened expression written across Lord Damien's face.

"Next time, I won't miss," Lucas said calmly.

Lord Damien was about to rush to Lucas but the arrow came out from the wall and was inches away from piercing through his eyes.

"Lucas..." Lord Valor yelled angrily, "drop that arrow now."

Lucas turned to them with a mad grin on his face, his eyes had turned golden, "make me."

Valen placed her hand on his and shook his head then the arrow fell on the ground and disappeared, "better thank him, the next time I see you bullying anyone in this palace, your neck would be next."

The three Lords were fuming with pure rage but Lord Aldridge smiled calmly, "it's been a while Lucas, hope to share some tea soon."

Lucas nodded and they all left, Valen bowed and rushed into the King's chambers, a maid was attending to him.

"Your Majesty..." Valen said calmly, "we need to talk."

Kaelvryn looked at her for a while then sent the maids away while Lucas walked into the chambers.

"Weren't you having fun with that healer girl, why are you here?"

Valen forced a tight smile on her face, "this is not the time for any jokes, your Majesty."

Kaelvryn finally sat properly, his eyes darting to Lucas who stood at his door with his brow raised, "does he also need to be here?"

Valen slightly turned her head then trailed her eyes back to Kaelvryn, "it's important you both hear what I'm about to say."

When they noticed the seriousness in her voice, Lucas walked closely and grabbed a seat, "go ahead."

Valen let out a deep breath and brought out the arrow and letter, the moment their eyes saw the arrow, they froze.

"How...where...when did you get this?" Kaelvryn stood up abruptly, his eyes shook, his body felt heavy and he stumbled slightly, Lucas reached for him.

Lucas turned to Valen, his eyes were suddenly cold and distant, "does anyone else knows of this?"

Valen knew that this would turn to something insane and couldn't implicate Georgia.

"No one, the arrow was shot when I was on my way back to the palace."

Kaelvryn finally got himself, "what did the letter say?"

"I shouldn't let you attend the festival, else you die," Valen said the words calmly. "I didn't know if it was a threat or a warning."

Kaelvryn and Lucas exchanged a look, "is there something I don't know of?" Valen asked calmly.

"The arrow you wield in your hand was the sane arrow that killed Kael's father years arrow, we never forgot the printing but this time we don't know if they are threatening us or as you said warning us."

"No..." Kaelvryn banged his hand on the table, "it's definitely a threat."

"Is that what you think?" Lucas was calm but his tone wasn't.

"What do you mean?" Valen asked confused.

"The festival that's upcoming is close to the red moon and everyone knows the effect it has on Kael, it's either those fucking councilmen are planning something crazy or someone else wants you dead."

"Almost everyone in the realm wants me dead, it's not a new thing," Kaelvryn said.

Valen took the arrow and stared at it one more time, "I don't think whoever sent this wants you dead but merely warning you."

Kaelvryn let out a sigh, pressing his fingers on the bridge of his nose, "it's impossible to find out who the archer is but we can prevent anything that tries to do anything stupid."

"You're the one doing something stupid by going for that fucking festival, you can aways fix the festivals after the red moon."

"You think I have a choice here," Kaelvryn voice was slowly rising.

"Yes you do, you're a fucking king, and your powers can make anybody crumble in the matter of seconds," Lucas yelled.

Valen rushed between the two, "this is not the time for you to be fighting, firstly we need to find what the councilmen really want by you attending this festival knowing fully it's in the week of the red moon."

Then Valen faced Kaelvryn, "your Majesty, pardon me but may I ask what does the red moon really does to you?"

"Tell him," he grunted and went back to his seat.

Kaelvryn faced Valen completely, "it's the reason I'm called a blood sucking monster, my curse always react when the red moon appears and I must be in my chambers at all time."

"Is that why the healers always have these tree saps for a potion for you?"

"What potion?" Kaelvryn and Lucas asked immediately.

Valen furrowed her brows immediately, tilting her head to the side, "Georgia told me that the healers are requested to make a potion for you every blood moon."

"There's no such thing," Kaelvryn said.

"Could be the councilmen be planning something with the healers?" Lucas chipped in.

"I think there's a lot that meets the eye in this case, if the healers are actually colliding with the councilmen, nothing would turn out well and it means they are coming for your throne." Valen said calmly.

Kaelvryn heaved a heavy sigh, "Valen, make sure no one knows about any of this and slowly investigate, maybe that healer friend of yours will finally come to an aid."

"Jealous baboon..." Lucas muttered under his lips but only Kaelvryn could hear him.

"I need to talk to Lucas in private," Kaelvryn said and Valen bowed and left.
