Chapter 31 - New beginnings

[Six Months After Trial - Estate]

Rain woke to sunshine streaming through his window. No nightmares last night—the first dreamless sleep in months.

He found Prapai in the garden, arranging breakfast on a blanket. A picnic.

"What's this?" Rain asked, smiling.

"Date number twelve," Prapai said. "If you're counting."

"I am." Rain sat beside him. "Pai, I've been thinking."

"Dangerous," Prapai teased.

"Serious." Rain took his hand. "We've been dating for four months. Taking it slow, being careful. And I appreciate that more than you know."

"But?"

"But I'm ready for more. Not everything—I'm still working through intimacy issues. But... maybe I could stay with you some nights? In your room?"

"I love you. I'm in love with you. Have been for a while. And I needed you to know, even if you're not ready to say it back."

Rain felt warmth bloom in his chest. "I love you too, Pai. It terrifies me, loving someone again. But I do. I love you."

Their kiss was sweet.

When they pulled apart, Rain felt tears on his cheeks—happy tears this time.

"Thank you," Rain whispered.

"For what?"

"For being patient. For showing me what love should look like. For helping me believe I deserve good things."

"Rain, you've always deserved good things. I'm just glad I get to be one of them."

They spent the day together—walking, talking, planning. Building a future brick by brick.

That night, Rain moved some clothes into Prapai's room. When they lay down together, Prapai held Rain carefully.

"Okay?" Prapai asked.

"Perfect," Rain breathed.

And for the first time in years, Rain fell asleep feeling safe, loved, and free.

The nightmare was over.

The healing continued.

And —their future—stretched bright and beautiful ahead...
