Chapter 1 - OMG, My Roommate is Gay!

Bryce

I am finally living my best life. I'm a freshman in college and things couldn't be any better. Although I do wish I could live in an apartment off campus instead of a dorm. But my dad kind of forced it on me, saying I need to be more social and try to make some new friends. At least, my close friends from high school are with me. And I have made a few new friends, like my roommate Ben. He is such a cool guy. When I first moved in, he helped me carry my stuff into the dorm, and he offered me some of his snacks that his family gave him as a care package.

I remember my move-in day, I arrived at the dorm and started unpacking my car. I carried a box and some clothes with me and was given my key by the RA. The dorm was pretty typical from what I imagined. It was almost like a cross between an apartment building and a motel. I trekked up four flights of stairs, (Why the hell this place didn't have an elevator was beyond me.) and I found my dorm room.

I opened the door to find this hispanic guy in my room. He looked pretty good as far as looks go, he had black hair in a Caesar cut, clean shaven face, broad shoulders with a slightly muscular build. I saw him and knew girls would be all over him. Compared to me, most girls here tend to go for latin guys over a slim white boy like me. At least that was the case with me and my friend Noah. But I have been told I have a cute baby face and beautiful blue eyes.

I entered the room and he immediately greeted me at the door while putting his stuff up.

"Hey roomie," he said, "I'm Ben."

"Sup," I answered back, "I'm Bryce." I saw he claimed the bed furthest from the door, leaving me with the other bed. I motion my head towards the empty bed, "Is this one mine?"

Ben nodded in reply as I set my stuff down. "What's your major?" he asked me.

"I'm going for sports medicine, and you?"

"Computer science," he answered, "Mainly for graphic design. I plan to work for a gaming company."

"You game?" I asked.

"Oh yeah," he replied, "Those are my systems over there."

He wasn't kidding when he said he was a gamer. He pointed over to his desk where he had a Playstation, an Xbox, and a PC that looked like he built it.

"Wow," I said in surprise, "Got any sports games?"

"Nah," he replied, "But if you want to play them, I can get some for you."

"Really?" I had a feeling that my new roommate and I would be great friends, "That's nice of you."

"Also, help yourself to whatever snacks are in that bag."

I looked over to where he was referring to and saw a huge bag of snacks. There were a variety of them. Chips, candies, cakes, beef sticks. Made me wonder if this was from his girlfriend back home or something. "So you have a sweetheart or something?"

Ben laughed and said, "No, my mom packed a whole bunch of snacks and I can't eat all of them."

"Any spicy stuff?" I asked.

"A few," Ben answered, "Just these." He handed me several bags of chips that I liked.

"So," I asked, "Are you on a scholarship or something?"

"No, My parents had a fund saved for me when I got to college. You?"

"Yeah," I answered, "I'm on an athletic scholarship. I originally wanted to go to LSU, but my dad wanted me here to keep an eye on my aunt. She's sick so me being here, she won't be alone."

"That's nice of you."

When classes started, Ben and I didn't see much of each other on some days, but on others especially on weekends, if I wasn't busy, we would game together. He didn't have many multiplayer games, he had the entire God of War series and Assassin's Creed games, Left 4 Dead, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil. Though his absolute favorite was Skyrim.

One weekend he had bought a couple sports games and said I could play them and a Call of Duty game he said he got where we can play together.

When we did, he absolutely sucked at it. I would always beat him in matches and when we were on a team against others, he was good at support. But he was impressive when it came to strategy. He would always create a plan that would put our best assets against other teams or when we did zombie matches.

All in all, I had the ideal roommate, until that day.

My friend Noah and I were getting ready for our first practice for football. Lucky bastard is living at home with his parents to save money and gets the luxury of not being stuck at a dorm.

"Hey Bryce."

"Hey Techno," Techno was his nickname since he was tech savvy, him and his brother Nick who we all called Technic. Since both brothers knew their way around technology they earned the nickname the Tech brothers, like they were a small computer repair company.

"Ready for our first practice, asshole?" he asked.

"Just don't cry when your ugly ass doesn't make the team." I said sarcastically.

"You bastard," Techno replied, "Not only will I make the team but I will be first string. Then, team captain."

"Did they switch your meds or something? Or do you stupidly believe that you're in some alternate universe where we lowly freshmen can make first string?"

"You'll see Bryce, you son of a bitch, I will make all that happen."

"Dream on."

After a couple hours of practice, the head coach stated to the entire team that they will be having tryouts for first and second string as well as alternates and placing for positions.

After we showered and made our way to the campus quad, the campus clubs and organizations were having a fair with all their booths. There were fraternities and sororities, boosters for the sports teams and band, drama and film clubs, and other student activities.

"Why don't we join a club?" asked Techno.

"No way," I replied, "Too many people for my liking."

"Didn't your dad tell you to be more social and make new friends?"

"I'm perfectly fine with the friends I have and I'm as social as I want to be." I said adamantly. One group caught my eye and immediately I didn't want to be there. The Gay Straight Alliance group.

One thing I hate above all else, gay people. I fucking hate them with a passion. Being around them is enough to make me want to vomit. I have my reasons to feel the way I do and I'm sick and tired of people telling me that I shouldn't feel or be like this.

I saw Ben in the distance and I pointed him out to Techno. "There's my roommate over there." Before I could call him over, I saw where he was heading. To that damn gay group.

"He's heading to the GSA table." Techno pointed out.

Anger swelled up in me seeing my roommate interact with those people. It made me think that my worst fear is probably upon me. My roommate is gay. As shocked as I was, the only thing I could say was, "What the fuck?!?!"
