"Then why were you in my bed?"
Merrick suddenly erupted in anger, his voice booming with accusation.
"President Lawrence, you said there was nothing between us."
Those words, spoken by Merrick just a few days ago, still echoed clearly in Lydia's ears. He had no right to yell about something that never happened.
"Are you angry?"
To Merrick, this sounded like a provocation.
"No, I have no reason to be angry," Lydia replied disdainfully, though her heart was in turmoil.
If denying it wouldn't work, then she might as well admit it. Lydia continued, "President Lawrence, even if something did happen between us, it was consensual. We both agreed from the start..."
"Shut up! I don't want to hear your nonsense. Is this another one of your tricks?" Merrick's emotions were running high. He had called her here to see if she was in any trouble, but her nonchalant attitude only fueled his anger.
