Chapter 9 - Uncontrolled Anger

The giant swung the bean stalk root he had pulled up into the air—and in an instant it whipped it towards us. I ran just in time, but when I looked back, I saw Alice standing still. "Al—" Before I could scream, the root lashed out at her, sending her flying far away.

I ran as fast as I could towards her. She should have been able to easily avoid the attack, so why didn't she?!

I approached Alice's unconscious body, and there I saw a card lying on top of her. I glanced over and my eyes widened in surprise at the sight of the Special Strawberry Parfait—which was only on sale today—scattered all over the ground.

Anger had taken hold of me; my hands were gripping the shotgun tightly and my heart was pounding—that scoundrel must pay for what it did.

I turned and immediately shot forward, crashing into everything in front of me. Anything or anyone that got in my way had to disappear. The giant tried to crush me with its giant fist, but I quickly aimed and fired—BANG—the giant screamed in pain this time, blood spraying everywhere. I used my hood to prevent my hair from turning blood red.

I could clearly see the skin on its finger torn open; its bones were incredibly hard. I sprinted forward again and immediately shot its thigh—BANG—The giant screamed, falling to its knees. It growled in pain like a deer shot by a hunter, the ground shook as its knees hit the earth, and I took the opportunity to climb onto one of the houses and aim at its arm—BANG—it reflexively smashed the building I was standing on.

I jumped and managed to land on its arm again, looking up to see that the giant's left eye was closed and covered in a little blood.

"Don't look the same as me" I took aim and—BANG—the bullet flew and hit Its right eye. The giant screamed and lost its balance. Soon after, it fell and lay on the ground, its huge body crushing the houses it had slept in.

I walked across the giant's belly and stopped precisely where its heart was, the giant growling in pain as I fired at both its eyes.

I began aiming again, the final shot for the giant that had initially seemed so strong. "WAIT—! I'M THE VICTIM HERE! YOU STOLE MY PRECIOUS GOLD RING, AND THIS IS WHAT YOU'RE DOING TO ME?!" The giant shouted angrily, even though its body could barely move anymore.

"For someone so big, you still have a very small brain, don't you?" I hissed. "We weren't the ones who stole your gold ring; besides, you trampled it to pieces yourself, didn't you?" Hearing this, the Giant fell silent.

"This is payback for what you did."

Without further ado, I pulled the trigger and the bullet pierced through its clothes and flesh then—THWACK—SPLAT.

Blood splattered everywhere, even hitting my shirt and face. Suddenly, I heard a clap of hands from behind me. "Wow! I'm touched by your words," said the familiar yet irritating voice.

I turned around and saw Alice standing tall with a smile. "You care about me a lot, huh? But sorry, I don't want to have a special relationship with anyone right now~" she smirked, clearly enjoying teasing me.

I walked towards her, "I knew you were using me, and for your information, I was talking about the special limited edition strawberry parfait—not you." I replied, standing in front of her. "I saw you using your card to prevent fatal injuries."

"WHAT—?! So you're more upset that the strawberry parfait was ruined than that I almost died?!" Alice shouted angrily, unable to believe it.

I nodded, which only made Alice even more annoyed; before long, we heard the sound of many footsteps approaching, and when we looked around, a large crowd of residents had already gathered.

"I want to thank you for saving us from that terrifying monster," the woman grasped one of my hands and held it tightly but warmly.

Alice smiled proudly, even though it was me who had killed the giant. "Of course! That's our job, after all," she laughed smugly, pleased that the Fables' reputation was finally improving.

The old woman approached me, not Alice, and that took her by surprise—she reached out and took my hand. "We don't know how to ever repay you for this," she said, and just then the wind blew back the hood of my jacket, revealing my face to them.

She looked closely at my face, her eyes wide as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing. She was speechless for a few moments before finally whispering in a trembling voice.

"You're still a girl."
