I opened my eyes, looked at the ceiling of my room, and the cold temperature made me shiver instantly. It turned out to be raining heavily outside, I saw my bandaged body and tried to process everything that had happened.
"Ah..."
I remembered it, Alice helped me defeat the killer couple who had cornered me.
KNOCK, KNOCK
"Red, may I come in?" Alice's voice sounded from outside the room; I was quite surprised because she wasn't usually this polite.
"Yes, come in," I said, and the door opened; a girl with long blonde hair entered gracefully.
She seemed to be in a good mood, smiling as she turned to me. She walked over to my bed and pulled up the nearest chair to sit down.
"How are you feeling?" she asked. I couldn't tell if her expression was worried or curious.
"I'm fine," I said. As the words left my mouth, I felt something under my blanket, and suddenly a rabbit jumped out and onto my shoulder.
"Mimi? You've been in my blanket this whole time?" I asked, petting her head gently.
Mimi turned to Alice, "Come here, Mimi," Alice said with a smile and made room for Mimi to sit.
But instead, Mimi jumped away from her owner and walked out of my room. Usually, she would prefer Alice over me, but for some reason, she was acting strange.
"Did you forget to feed her?" I asked Alice, and she shook her head.
Well, maybe Mimi was going through a rebellious phase.
"So, how did you get Robin Hood to help us at that time?" I asked, curious.
Alice then began to tell me the story. "We were fighting each other, but in the middle of the fight we talked a little, and because his story was quite interesting—I invited him to chat."
"He told me about how he lost his fiancée, Marian and He also said that you looked a lot like her, which is why he seemed hesitant to attack you in the forest that time."
"After learning that, I got worried and rushed to where you were, only to find you lying helpless in the grass."
Upon hearing that, I understood what had actually happened. Before I could say anything, Alice said again, "You're a unique girl, huh?"
I turned to look at her again; that unexpected statement surprised me.
"You let yourself get hurt for a little kid you don't even know."
"Did you do that out of sympathy? Personal desire? Or because she still has a future ahead of her?"
"Only you know the answer to that... and it seems like you don't want to tell me, huh?"
She paused for a moment before speaking again, still smiling.
"That attitude of yours could lead to your downfall in the future, aren't you afraid?"
I did not answer.
"Of course you're not afraid, only God knows what you're afraid of."
"But you have to stop thinking that the world rotates around you, you are not the main character."
KRING! KRING! KRING!
My head turned towards the sound of the telephone ringing suddenly on the table beside my bed. The telephone should be in the living room—who moved it here?
I looked at Alice again, who was still smiling. "Answer it. It might be Mother."
I then grabbed the telephone and held it close to my ear and lips. "Hello, this is Red speaking."
"Of course you're the one speaking, you idiot," said a very familiar voice, one I had heard less than ten seconds ago. "You're at home alone anyway!"
It was Alice's voice.
"Listen, I'm out shopping for groceries I forgot to buy yesterday, but suddenly this damn rain appeared!"
"So, stay in your bed and don't go anywhere until I get home."
"Did you hear me, Yellow?"
If Alice was out there then... who was Alice beside me?
I turned slowly and saw Alice—no, that figure was no longer sitting, she was just standing away from the chair, still smiling.
As I blinked, she disappeared, but I felt something heavy falling on me on the bed.
I glanced over and saw the figure sitting on top of me—both of her hands immediately strangled me so tightly that I had difficulty breathing.
I summoned my shotgun and aimed at its stomach—BANG—the bullet flew but it vanished immediately, shattering the window instead.
I turned towards the door and saw it peeping through the crack while smiling.
BANG
I fired again, and the figure vanished, leaving a hole in the door from my bullet.
"Bloody hell..."
No one knew whether that thing was still in the house or not.
