Chapter 11 - Looking Back

Alice was trapped and unable to move; any movement of her fingers could cause an arrow to pierce her head—BANG—A bullet whizzed by, separating them. Robin was surprised that he hadn't heard any footsteps. He turned and saw a girl standing there with a shotgun in her hands.

I won't let him shoot his bow.

Robin narrowed his eyes before running away. "I'll take over!" I shouted before running after him from behind. From the roof, Robin shot arrows at me repeatedly, and I responded by shooting my shotgun at the arrows.

The arrows deflected without shattering, I was quite surprised by that and began to analyse his bow. "He has an Everafter too, huh?" I muttered as I dodged the arrows flying towards me.

I entered an alley and jumped from the walls on my left and right so I could get onto the same roof as her. As soon as my feet touched the rooftops, I came face to face with Robin. He just stared at me for a moment before turning and running away.

Of course, I ran after him, and far behind me I heard, "H-Hey! Wait for me!" It was Alice's voice. She couldn't turn the street into ice because there were many people passing by, I continued chasing him from behind, and I knew exactly where he was trying to lure me.

The forest.

When I entered the forest, I looked around and glanced here and there to quickly find him—WHOSH!—I could hear the sound of arrows and when I blinked, I was already surrounded by arrows flying towards me.

I quickly dodged all the arrows, feeling the wind from the arrows that almost hit my body.

And when the arrows stopped, Robin jumped down from above and immediately launched a punch, which I managed to block with my arm. Robin then quickly launched a knee strike aimed at my stomach.

I immediately caught his knee with my palm, and Robin grabbed my wrist and tried hard to lift my arm upwards. His other hand immediately slid towards my chin. I had no choice but to leap backwards. In an instant, Robin summoned his bow and aimed at me—CREAK.

WHOOSH—THUCK.

I managed to dodge it, but the arrow hit the hood of my red jacket and stuck into a tree trunk, immobilising me. I looked at Robin's expression, and it was very different from what I had imagined. He stared at me with a look of shock, his hands shaking. "M-Marian...?" He seemed to be calling out to someone, his voice clearly trembling, his eyes filled with longing.

His hand slowly reached out to grab me, but a giant wooden hand struck Robin, sending him flying far away. When his body hit the ground, it rolled and crashed into a tree. "Creep," muttered a girl with disgust. The girl was Alice, and the giant wooden hand had come out of her card.

She walked over and stopped in front of me, turning to look at me immediately. "Are you alright?" she asked.

"You took so long," I said, pulling out the arrow that had pinned me to the tree.

Alice's expression turned annoyed. "You guys ran too fast, you know?!" she shouted at me, her frustration evident.

After I was able to walk again, I saw that my hood was torn by the arrow. "That bastard..." This jacket was my favourite.

We turned to look where Robin should have been lying, but he was nowhere to be seen. "He ran away," I muttered.

Alice sighed deeply. "I should have tied him up first," she said, folding her arms.

Alice then turned to me and asked, "So, did he say anything to you?"

I paused before replying, "He called me Marian" I answered, and that left Alice looking confused.

"Who?" Alice asked.
