Chapter 2 - changing fate

I followed Rumi as she ran across the city to a building, scaled up the fire escape, and went to the rooftop. I teleported behind her as she fell to her knees.

"Rumi!" I stood behind her. She turned to me, tears running down her face, dressed in black, white, and gold. "... sis..."

she ran to me and hugged me, crying in my chest. I held her. petting her head in the hug. She trembled, crying in my chest.

"Rumi..." I said gently.

"My voice," she managed to say. Her sobs were harsh and choppy between breaths.

"It's the honmoon," I told her. letting go and showing her my arm where the golden scar line now remains. Rumi's eyes widened. Then looked in my eyes.

"wha... but Selene said-"

"Fuck what Selene said." I told her, "Look at us, Rumi."

Holds her hand in mine, my patterns glowed along her arm through her jacket.

"This is a part of us. The golden honmoon will tear us apart." I told her, holding her hand in mine. "I'm sorry, Sis, but this is a part of us."

Rumi had her eyes locked on our markings, her hand shaking. She was still trying to live by Selene's standards.

"...You should tell those friends of yours..." I said to her. Giving her a sympathetic expression. I hate saying this, but she has to hear it, from me or someone else who sees that Selene is basically causing emotional abuse trying to suppress part of Rumi that no one can ever change. I love my sister, I really do. But she trusts Selene too much to not ask questions about all this. Rumi was just still trying to process this, and clearly didn't want to accept that Selene would never accept us as we are.

"... They won't understand..." Rumi said, I pulled her into a hug, resting my chin on her head.

"I'll be there with you Rumi," I said to her as I held her. "And I will always be there, even if you hate it."

Rumi laughed weakly as she wiped her eyes; her makeup was smudged. I dug out my makeup from my pocket and fixed her makeup.

"... guess it's time I told Mira and Zoey..." Rumi said, sniffling gently.

"Yeah, let's go." I held her and teleported us to Huntr/x tower in her living room, and sat down. We both could hear Mira and Zoey in their rooms. I sat with her, hugging her shoulders. Then we heard footsteps coming down the stairs.

"Rumi?" A gentle but energetic voice came from the stairs, probably Zoey. "Who's-"

I turned to look at the two at the stairs. I was still in my t-shirt and baggy pants from the show that I canceled. Both Zoey and Mira stopped in place, jaws dropped, looking at my body that they could see, and my face.

"Evening," I said. They both went red at the sound of my voice. "Rumi hasn't mentioned me, has she?"

"No!" Zoey said, while drooling, and Mira eyed my patterns. "Rumi! when did you meet this guy?! And what is his makeup routine?!"

"Akuma. I'm Rumi's older brother." I said to her. "And my makeup routine is just a simple one."

"And the patterns?" Mira asked. I looked to Rumi. She breathed shakily.

"You need to tell them, sis." I squeezed her shoulder. Rumi shakily took off her jacket. Her patterns trailed from under her shirt to her wrists. The two gasped behind us. I placed my hand on her shoulder, watching the two of them warily.

"... Rumi..?" Zoey said shakily, looking at my sister's patterns.

"We were born half demon, half human," I explained to them. Both Mira and Zoey were confused. "Selene told Rumi to hide her entire life."

"... This is why you never come to the bathhouse..." Mira said, "Because you were trying to hide them."

"And the golden honmoom will tear Rumi and me apart from the inside out," I told them. "It affected our voices and caused physical harm to me as well."

Mira and Zoey both looked horrified. Rumi held herself, watching the other two like she was expecting them to judge her for being part demon. I gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze.

"Then we can find another way," Zoey and Mira said in unison. Rumi looked up, surprised but relieved. I sighed with relief. Rumi had good friends at her side.
