SHEILA'LNING
The man places his finger against his lips for the second time today.
But this time it was different, like something was happening in his apartment.
He creeped along the edges of the apartment making no sound, just then the lights flickered off then on then off again.
A telephone rang somewhere in the apartment, he paused for a moment before going to answer it.
The rumbling of his voice resonated to where I stood, definitely it is someone he is familiar with.
He comes back to where I am, frowning and muttering something under his breath.
"I am sorry for the quite dramatic entrance, Jaste, the loft keeper just told me there had been a light outage and it is been fixed currently" he says before gently lifting the baby from my arms.
I awkwardly stand there shifting from one foot to another before saying "Ahem---I would just go now, since the day is over?" I do not know why I just said that now.
"Miss Genvre!" he calls out as I make a move towards the door to his apartment.
"Now you listen to me, I have had enough of your less than stellar attitude towards me and the job I hired you for" he says narrowing his eyes on me.
"I assure you baby daddy, that you have mistaken me for another person and I know for sure you did most of the talking between us today" I say rolling my eyes at his attitude.
"What?" he asks looking outraged I would even suggest something like that.
"Yeah, I just happened to be at the shop the same time you were meant to meet Miss Genvre" I say feeling a little bit sorry for the confusion.
"So, what you are trying to say is I gave my daughter to a stranger who lied about her identity?" he questions oddly calm, his face void of any expression.
"I would have you know that I never once said I was Miss Genvre" I replied shuffling closer to the door.
If I where the one in his position I would most likely have called the Enforcers.
"Get out" he says his face twisted with undiluted anger.
Not wanting to be told twice, I scrambled out of the apartment as if I was been chased. It is a pity we met under this kind of circumstance.
I would have really liked to watch over his baby for him.
The pay was okay too, a thousand Zure coins! I could probably find my way to another planet with that sort of money.
I made my way past the baby's daddy's apartment, hoping I was able to leave this city after this entire fiasco.
Maybe I was a fool to come out clean to the baby's dad, I could have kept up with the charade and made enough money to keep me aloft for a few months.
I shake my head to rid myself of such thoughts, if I were in his shoes I would not like such been done unto me.
By the time I reached the outskirts of the city I was so hungry, I could barely see the path I was following.
Darkness was already creeping on the tall trees I was passing as I made my way further from the city.
I stopped at a particular tree which had wide branches and wider roots, I could barely see my hand in front of me, I decided to call it a night and rest a bit before I resumed my journey.
I rested my head on the trunk of the tree as I slowly slid down to have my seat on one of the gnarled wide roots.
I would climb the tree before I slept to avoid been eaten by predators or taken by bandits.
I had not noticed that I fell asleep until a sharp pain woke me up.
I came face to face with a man who looked like he had not been out of the woods for a very long time.
I tried to back away from him but it was as if everything I was doing was in slow motion.
I placed my hands on a root to lift myself up but I could not even muster enough energy to lift myself up.
"You sure are a fighter, ain't you?" I heard the man before me say before I surrendered to the darkness that encroached on my vision.
I woke up to a tight sensation on my wrists and ankles, I groaned softly as my head pounded with a vicious thrum.
"You are awake, that was fast" the man I saw before I lost consciousness muttered to himself.
"You better untie me, you keffing bastard!" I say to him voice trembling.
My stomach content rebelling against the horror I imagined the man could do to me.
"I would not do that if I were you" he says before chugging down a bottle of something down his throat.
Oh my God! Do not tell I fell into the arms of a man who wants exchange me for some tankards he sure is not getting here.
"You would not be my problem a few moments from now" he says looking agitated.
"Why would you do this to an innocent person?" I question trying not to breakdown at the fact that I was been held against my will. Again.
"I need someone to exchange for my Lisa, my poor sweet daughter" he says voice breaking.
"I do not understand the purpose of you lying to me, I am already tied up" I say face screwed up in mock fear. I have a feeling this man wants to sell me for either tankards or coins.
Just then, a group of weirdly dressed men and women approached us, they tossed out a bag to the man holding me hostage before two men stepped forward to carry me into the caravan, they had with them.
I tried to fight against their hold when a sharp hit to my head had me falling into the embrace of darkness.
