SHEILA'LNING
I had been peeping through the medium sized hole on caravan, desperate to know exactly where I was.
I was already losing hope about ever being free until I saw the baby's daddy's hovercar on the side of the road, I gasped silently wishing the caravan would slow down enough for me to fling myself on to the street.
It appeared that lady luck was on my side because suddenly the caravan was stopped and I was shoved off the vehicle with force.
Since I was not prepared, I went down headfirst on to the cobbled street thinking I would die as a slave and not a free person before I was yanked into the darkness that was fast becoming my best friend.
I opened my eyes to a blurry figure standing over me, I tried raising my hand to push whoever it was but was too weak to do so.
"She would be fine. she has a mild concussion.
She just needs to rest and avoid any strenuous activity" the blurry figure before me said to the figure standing at the edge of the room, I was in. "Thanks, Doc" The figure said stepping closer to where I was.
His face became clearer as he waved his hand in front of me.
It is the baby's daddy! I had seen his hovercar earlier and I knew he was in the area.
Relief coursed through out my body.
At least, I knew him. Kind of. Sort of. Remembering how we had parted ways, I hope he does not hand me over to the Enforcers.
The baby's dad escorted the healer outside the room, I wondered how the healer healed me even though I did not feel the typical tingling sensation I feel anytime I visited the healer's Qara back home.
"I think you owe me an explanation as to how you got involved with those bandits" he says pinning his golden gaze at me.
I told him how I had encountered the man in the woods and what had occurred after.
His eyes ping ponged all over my face as if to detect any hint towards me lying.
"what about your parents?" he asks his eye brows scrunched into a frown.
"They are dead and I am an adult" I say lifting my upper body to lay against the head rest.
"Okay, let's say I believe everything you have said so far, why did you pretend to be Miss Genvre?" he questioned still eyeing me with suspiciousness.
"I never once pretended to be Miss Genvre, I just happened to be at the window of the shop before you came and started barking out demands at me" I replied skin flushing in anger.
His eyes flash with an emotion at my tone but was gone before I could blink my eyes.
"I would allow you stay for a few days to recover from your injuries" he says surprising me.
I never thought he would even be the one I would wake up to.
The following day as he was getting ready to go to work.
I approached him concerning something that would benefit us both.
"I owe you for rescuing me from an untimely death, I want to pay the debt by helping you mind your daughter" I say nervous as to what his answer might be.
He had remained in the same position he was since I approached him.
Although I had been young when I was captured, I had minded quite a number of children back at home.
"Okay, but you would have to follow me to my office, I am not leaving my daughter with a stranger in our home" he says before walking towards his room.
That was harsh but reasonable, I guess. I looked around in awe as took in where Dean'changli worked.
Apparently, he is a big deal on this planet. Ol'vi squirms against me as she fists the top of my shirt in her fist.
That means hungry in baby language, I wonder where her mom was.
I thought about the last time I saw mine.
She had been so drunk she did not even think twice before she yanked me out of bed beside my sister.
I hope my sister had not faced the same I did, the world was not so kind to children abandoned by their parents.
"You would stay here in my office" Dean says before he picks up a telephone to make a call.
I turned my focus on Ol'vi who had become enraptured with my face.
I blow a breath on her face, giggling as she squints her eyes clearly unnerved by the sudden wave of air pouring on her face.
I fixed the bottle containing the breast milk against her mouth, watching as she pulled the nipple into her mouth and started sucking.
I glanced up to find Dean watching me, he appeared confused about something.
Just then, a man breezes into Dean's office with a smirk on his face and an odd gleam in his eyes.
Dean stiffens as he heard the man slam the door to his office shut before laying his eyes on me.
"So, the rumors are true brother, you did not waste any time getting yourself a wife and a mother for my niece" the man said oozing out anger that was carefully hidden by a slimy smirk on his face.
"What I do is none of your concern, Khali'changli" Dean replies nonchalantly, busying himself with an electronic file on his desk.
"Drop the nonchalant attitude, Dean" the man says dropping the smirk on his face. Dean's brother looks like he has a bone to pick with him.
"Do not think for a second you already won the position, brother. I promise you I would find out whatever it is you are playing at'' Dean's brother said glaring at Dean.
"I would warn you not to do anything stupid as regards to my wife and child, you would regret it" Dean said eyes flashing with unbridled anger.
