Chapter 4 - CHAPTER FOUR- DESPERATION

DEAN'CHANGLI

As if my daughter sensed the stranger had departed from our home, she peeled out a cry that rang in echo against my eardrums.

Just when I thought I had found a solution to her unending tears that damn stranger just had to fuck it up.

I gently picked up my daughter, making soothing noises to stop her from crying.

When she stopped for a bit, I grabbed my X-communicator to initiate a telegraphic call with Di'fa.

"Hey, Li" my best friend calls out as soon as he accepted the incoming telegraph.

"Hey yourself, Di" I responded, pissed at him for allowing the incident that happened today to occur.

"I thought you said Miss Genvre would meet up with me today to take care of Ol'vi while I attend the shareholders meeting" I spat at him.

"Shit! So, about that, Miss Genvre had an accident on her way to the hall" he says running his hand through his hair.

"I would have appreciated it if you had told me this sooner instead of me having to deal with an imposter" I say as I grab the wrap-around holder I got from the store to fit Ol'vi in so she could lay on my chest without me holding her.

The moment I drop her in her cot she would require both of us staying awake till the sunrise and I do not want that so hence the baby wrap holder.

"An imposter?" he questions looking surprised.

"What? You do not believe me?" I ask shocked that he would think I am lying about something like this.

"Well to be honest, this kind of thing only happens in those soap opera vids I like to watch" he says having the nerve to explain why he would think I made it up.

"If that were to be the case, then what would you say about Ol'vi's rather dramatic appearance into my life?" I ask him daring him to say shit.

"You know I love that little poop making machine and you are right, I guess your life is turning into a soap opera" he says stifling a chuckle from getting out of him.

I can still remember the day I found my daughter on the door step of this very apartment.

I had been rushing off to work that morning after I had slept way past my alarm before I almost stumbled on the basket that had been placed on my door step.

I had reached into the basket to check what was in it only to find a baby sleepy gazing up at me.

I had freaked out before I noticed the note that had been slipped into the basket with the baby, my name written boldly on the frontal part of the envelope.

"What did you do to the imposter? Oh my God do not tell me you killed her?" he says a look of horror dominating his facial expression.

"I did nothing of such, I just asked her to get out of my apartment" I say in reply as I gently pat Ol'vi in the bum when she makes a gurgling sound.

That was the last time both I and Ol'vi got any decent sleep, her sleeping time table was not in line with mine.

At all. I was more than desperate to hire a nanny at all cost.

The first nanny I hired after the stranger lady was an elderly woman who knew what she was doing so I decided to leave Ol'vi with her at the apartment.

By the time I got back from work that day, Ol'vi's cries resonated down to the lobby floor of the loft, thinking she was hurt I stumbled blindly to our apartment to get to her.

As I got in, the poor woman looked as red-faced as the infant she held whose cries heightened in both tone and intensity as if she knew I was back.

The woman handed my baby back to me apologizing for not been able to care for her, making it known that Ol'vi had started crying almost immediately I left the apartment.

The other nannies that came after her were no better, seeing as I could not allow my daughter to scream her lungs out.

I began taking her with me to the office. It was not the best idea but a relatively better option, when I needed to be hundred percent focused.

I asked Di'fa to be on nannying duties while one of the interns cover for him as my assistant.

All good things come to an end, I would have preferred if the honor was not given to my block head of a brother who walked into my office one unfortune afternoon spewing shit about how our dad was declining in health and had given the family Lawyer a go ahead to read out his will among his family members once it looked like he was likely to die.

Not believing him, I reached out to our lawyer to confirm what my brother said which turned out to be true.

The lawyer told me truly my father's condition had deteriorated over night therefor he would proceed to read out his will to his surviving family, sadly that includes my step brother.

I told the lawyer we all should meet in my office the following day.

My brother arrived first, not long after the lawyer arrived apologizing for been a bit behind on schedule, he then proceeded to reading the will.

I had zoned out, not really listening to what he was saying before he dropped a bomb on us by saying "…The acting chairperson for the Sh'Jestu group must be married." I cleared my throat then believing I heard wrong.

"But the post would be filled by a vote" I said confused to why my father would want to use such underbelly act.

"It states here that the shareholders know about Mr. Haf'changli's decision" he said closing the will.

And just like that, the fate of the company I worked my ass for hung by the who got married first.
