Boruto arrived at the place where he had seen the explosions. Once there, he found only a huge crater, and on the ground lay a torn piece of Himawari's shirt.
"Hima…" Tears began streaming down Boruto's face. "I lost you too… DAMN IT!"
"That was close. If I hadn't created a barrier around myself at the last second, I wouldn't have survived. Don't worry, brother you'll join our sister soon," Kawaki said, brushing dust off himself.
Boruto looked at his brother with a cold gaze. Suddenly, his hair began to lift. A bright aura appeared around his body, the scar on his eye started to vanish, and when he opened it, instead of its usual blue, it glowed light-blue with a black sclera.
"What kind of dōjutsu is that?" Kawaki wondered. "Whatever…"
Kawaki hurled several rods toward Boruto. When the blond looked at them with his transformed eye, they froze in place, shocking Kawaki.
"What?"
With just a glance, Boruto sent the rods flying back at Kawaki, forcing the older Uzumaki to dodge. Boruto used that moment to appear in front of him and punch him in the stomach, making Kawaki spit blood.
"Damn you!" Kawaki tried to hit Boruto, but Boruto vanished from his sight, reappeared behind him a second later, and knocked him to the ground with one blow.
Kawaki created a massive black cube above Boruto and dropped it on him. The blond clenched his fist and flew upward, breaking through the cube entirely.
"Impossible…"
"What happened? Suddenly you're not so confident anymore?" Boruto whispered into Kawaki's ear as he appeared behind him.
"When did he? He's much faster than before!"
Before Kawaki could react, Boruto grabbed him by the neck and lifted him into the air.
"You know… maybe I would've spared you once. But I can't forgive what you did to the villagers, to our friends… and our family." A surge of purple lightning formed in Boruto's hand.
"Damn it, I have to return to our world and use the power of the Divine Tree!" Kawaki opened a portal, then shrank himself down to slip out of Boruto's grip and escaped through it.
"Pathetic. Do you really think you can run from me?" Boruto muttered.
Before jumping in after him, Boruto summoned a toad and told it to deliver a message to Azazel and the others. Then he chased Kawaki into the portal.
Kawaki returned to Konoha and saw that the Otsufication process of the villagers was nearing completion. Suddenly he sensed something and dodged Boruto's attack at the last moment.
"You came just in time, brother. How about a family reunion?"
The people of Konoha emerged from their cocoons among them Boruto's friends. What shocked and hurt him the most was seeing Naruto, Hinata, and Hanabi. All of them looked like Otsutsuki and moved like zombies.
"Why…"
Hinata and Hanabi were the first to attack Boruto, forcing him to dodge.
"Calm down… that's no longer my mother or my aunt," Boruto said, unable to bring himself to fight them.
Naruto appeared in front of his son and drove a knee into Boruto's stomach, sending him flying.
"Dad…"
Naruto formed a Rasengan and charged at Boruto. But before he reached him, he was kicked in the face.
"Get it together, Boruto! That's not your family anymore." Boruto's mentor stepped in front of him.
"Sasuke-san!" Boruto was relieved to see his master.
"That Kashin Koji guy explained everything to me. I know you've become much stronger. But don't forget we must stop Kawaki and keep him from conquering the remaining villages. So you take care of him, and we'll handle the rest."
"We?"
"It's been a long time, Boruto-kun. You've grown since we last met."
"Orochimaru…"
Alongside Orochimaru appeared the rest of Team Taka and someone Boruto didn't expect.
"Hello, Boruto."
"Nanashi… I mean, Hikari?"
