Chapter 10 - Chapter 10: Astonishing All the Beasts

Maya Miller felt humiliated and was grinding her teeth in hatred, but she would never hate Corbin Crowley.

She only hated Luna Sutton—so ugly, lazy, greedy, and mean. How could she deserve Corbin?

The heavens must be blind.

If she didn't have a father who was the leader, she would've been kicked out of the tribe long ago.

Luna didn't care what Maya was thinking as she already turned to head back with the beast hide in her arms.

As she passed through the Tribal Square, she noticed a crowd of beastmen gathered there—Corbin Crowley, Rhys Blackwood, Kian Sterling, Zeke Veridian, Malachi Arcanus, and her brother Mason Sutton were all present.

Of course, there were other beastmen too.

A massive crowd, easily at least a hundred beastmen.

Her father, Lyle Sutton, was also there, standing at the very front, explaining something to the assembled beastmen.

Listening closely, it was nothing more than today's hunting plans and reminders to stay safe, that sort of thing.

Clearly, they were about to head out for a hunt.

Luna's mind stirred, and she walked over with the beast hide in her arms.

Lyle spotted her immediately, frowning on the spot and scolding her with a stern face: "What are you doing here? Hurry up and get back already!"

He honestly couldn't stand this daughter—lazy, greedy, annoying personality, obsessed with men, and to top it off, extremely ugly. She was always an embarrassment to him.

Lyle just couldn't fathom it—he and his mate looked fine, his son Mason turned out quite decent, so how did he end up with such an ugly daughter?

But he didn't doubt Luna was his kid, since her eyes looked exactly like his own.

It was precisely because she was his own flesh and blood that he got so pissed off.

Luna looked at the disgust in Lyle's eyes, feeling completely speechless inside.

Exactly how much did her predecessor disgust this old man?

She curled her lips, not even bothering with his look of disdain, and said on her own, "Dad, I want to go hunting with you guys."

In the original novel, the heroine Chloe Callahan was brought back to the Wolf Tribe by Corbin on this very trip. Even though Chloe had already shown up earlier, and she herself tossed her far away just yesterday afternoon…

But Luna never underestimated the main character's halo—who could say, maybe Chloe would bump into Corbin again and get brought back to the tribe.

She had to keep an eye on things personally.

Besides, eating grilled meat and fish every damn day was getting old; her mouth was about to lose all taste.

She desperately needed to improve her quality of life.

Lyle thought he must have misheard, looking at her with surprise. "What did you say?"

Luna repeated herself, "I said, I want to go hunting with you guys."

Silence fell on all sides.

Then, raucous laughter erupted across the square.

"Hahaha! Did you all hear that? Luna actually said she wants to go hunting? I'm dying over here!"

"She's a lazy, greedy female, and she wants to go hunting? Next thing you know…"

That beastman wanted to say Luna had "something wrong with her head." But as the words reached his mouth, he glanced at the leader up front and swallowed them back down.

Even if the leader despised Luna, she was still his daughter. Say something like that and the leader would definitely be pissed.

"I bet she just wants a chance to get close to the beast husbands, huh? Hahaha…"

Other beastmen joined in mocking her too.

But with the leader present, they held back—though their words were still mean as hell.

Even Corbin, Rhys, Kian, Zeke, and Malachi looked at her with frowns.

Their thoughts were about the same as everyone else's—she must be using this chance to get close to them. Their faces full of distaste.

Luna ignored everyone's ridicule, and didn't care about those beast husbands' hate-filled stares either. She just quietly looked to Lyle.

"Dad, don't worry, I won't hold anyone back. I've awakened the Wood Element Ability—I can protect myself."

With that, she placed the beast hide on the huge stone in the square, stretched out her right hand, and activated the power inside her palm.

Soon, a tiny vine sprouted in her palm—vivid green, materializing before everyone's eyes.

In this world, there were supernatural powers. Like Corbin, whose true form was the Silver-moon Ice Wolf and could control ice.

Rhys, Kian, Zeke, and Malachi also had their own special abilities tied to their true forms.

The tribe's beastmen naturally had them too, and could freely shift between beast and human shapes.

But females couldn't. Nor did they have any talent abilities.

Now, Luna was telling everyone—she'd awakened supernatural power. It wasn't hard to imagine how shocked the beastmen were.

The laughter on the square came to an abrupt halt; every beastman stared wide-eyed, unable to believe the little green vine in her palm.

A female awakening power? Unheard of. Unseen until today.

Lyle stared at the little vine in Luna's palm, shocked speechless for a long time.

He'd lived so many years, but never once seen a female awaken supernatural power.

And it wasn't just him—none of the beastmen present had ever seen it either.

Normally, they'd sneer and never buy it for a second.

But the truth was right there for all to see. No way to argue with it.

Watching everyone's shocked faces, Luna felt a secret thrill inside, though her own expression stayed calm.

She even pushed the power further, letting the little vine in her palm grow longer, twining nimbly around her fingertips.

Now, the looks they shot her had changed again.

There was curiosity, interest, and more than a bit of jealousy…

The beast husbands glanced at the lush vine in Luna's palm. Even the disgust faded a little, replaced by surprise.

This female… really was starting to change.

Lyle was the first to snap back to reality. His gaze turned complicated as he asked in a low voice, "You really awakened this ability?"

Luna nodded. "Yes."

Lyle's face flickered; he pressed further, "When did you awaken it?"

"Yesterday."

Luna didn't hide a thing, answering honestly.

This ability was something she brought from the apocalypse, anyway—no one could trace it.

Lyle stared at her for a long moment, deep in thought.

He didn't keep questioning her.

Instead, he looked out at the beastmen and said in a loud voice, "Since Luna's awakened an ability and wants to come hunt with us, she'll come along. You all keep an eye on her, don't let her get hurt."

Now that his daughter had a power, he wasn't going to stop her anymore.

The tribe's first female awakening an ability—this was huge.

Who knows? Maybe his daughter would even lead their tribe to a new peak one day.

With that, Lyle's gaze at Luna became much kinder.

There was even a hint of pride in his eyes.

Luna: "..."

Why did it feel like this proud look was kind of off?

Sure enough.

The next second, Lyle added, "Since you awakened an ability, consider the past wiped clean. From now on, do your best, earn the tribe's trust as soon as possible, and bring honor to your old man, you got it?"

Luna's mouth twitched hard.

Bring him honor?

Why did it feel like this old guy wanted to show her off?

Luna was speechless but had no plans to expose Lyle's motives. She nodded obediently, "Got it, Dad."

No matter what he was after, at least for now, this was good for her.

Seeing she was allowed to come along, she quickly spread the washed beast hides on the big nearby rock to dry.

When the rock was full, she laid them out on the grass instead.

The beastmen all watched her move, faces full of surprise.

The tribe's most notorious lazy female was actually washing beast hides on her own initiative?

Did she really change?
