Dylan laid the complete file on Roman's desk at nine on a Tuesday and sat across from him while Roman read it, which took longer than usual because Roman was reading it the way he read things that confirmed what he had suspected, slowly, verifying each piece against the map already in his head.
The file covered eighteen months. It was thorough and it was ugly.
"Matt Holmes is not primarily a competitor," Dylan said, when Roman set the last page down. "He's a contractor. A tool. The business he runs is real but it's secondary to this, running interference operations for clients who need distance from what they're doing."
"And Charles is the client."
"Charles is the client. The shell company is confirmed. The financial trail is documented at four points. The investor contacts, the photographer, the mole in our building, all of it funded from the same source at two removes." Dylan leaned forward slightly. "But there's something else."
