Dragon Ball: The Gamer Twin

Chapter 1 – Awakening of the Gamer Twin

The sky above the Twenty-Fifth World Martial Arts Tournament shimmered like polished glass, a hundred thousand voices merging into a single, living roar. Children darted between snack stalls, the scent of sweet rice cakes mixing with the electric excitement of battle.

Inside one of the side arenas, dust still swirled where two small figures had collided.

"Winner, Trunks!" the announcer bellowed.

The crowd erupted again. Goten cheered for his friend even as medics rushed to the boy who hadn't gotten back up.

Kai Son lay half-buried in the dirt, the world tilting around him. His ears rang like struck metal. The last thing he remembered was Trunks ducking under his punch, a flash of light—then darkness.

Now the darkness had weight.

Then, it cracked.

A pulse of blue light flickered at the edge of his vision. A strange glow.

When consciousness returned, it came with pain—and a whispering hum that didn't belong to the tournament grounds. Kai groaned and pressed a hand to the back of his head.

"Ugh… what hit me? Feels like a spaceship landed on my skull."

Something shimmered in front of his eyes—a faint blue panel, letters floating as if carved from light.

He blinked. The words didn't vanish. When he turned his head, they followed.

"What in the—"

Images slammed into his mind. Streets lined with cars. A glowing screen playing anime late at night. A name echoing through the blur—Dragon Ball—and a man who looked exactly like his father on that screen.

Memories. Not his, yet his.

Kai gasped, clutching his chest as the two worlds overlapped inside him. I… had another life? I watched this world on TV?

The noise of the stadium became distant, a ghost behind the thunder of his heartbeat.

He sat up slowly inside the medical tent where the ring officials had dragged him. The fabric walls rippled with wind; beyond them came the laughter of his twin brother.

Goten. His twin.

Half-Saiyan, same as him.

Only now, Kai understood what that meant. This wasn't a dream or a fever. He was living inside the very universe he used to watch—one where gods blinked stars into dust and mortals shattered mountains for fun.

Anyone else in his place might have cried or panicked, but not him. He had quite the background—and quite the cheat too.

Being Goku's son gave him plenty of advantages: powerful allies, access to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and countless martial arts masters to learn from.

He grinned. "This is gonna be fun."

His Gamer ability—his most treasured secret—wasn't ordinary either. It had none of the limitations from the original Gamer system: no forced quests, no negative attribute penalties, and no interference from outer beings like Gaia.

Once he was sure he was alone, Kai focused inward and whispered, "Status window."

A blue screen appeared before him.

Kai's jaw tightened. "You've got to be kidding me. I'm so weak! If I don't level up fast, Majin Buu's gonna wipe me out before I even start."

A new notification rippled across the panel.

Kai frowned and dispelled the panels. "What a joke. Even my arsenal's weak… but at least I can make dungeons. Time to grind, baby."

Just then, the tent flap burst open.

"Kai!" Goten's voice rang out. "You awake? Man, you scared me!"

Behind him, Trunks peeked in, rubbing the back of his neck. "Sorry, dude. Guess I don't know my own strength."

Kai blinked up at them—their matching grins, the spark of mischief in their eyes—and couldn't help smiling. "It's fine. I've had worse headaches. Besides, it's not your fault I'm weak… for now."

"What's that supposed to mean?" Trunks asked, confused.

"You'll see," Kai said with a grin.

"Mom's gonna flip," Goten groaned. "Come on, the adult tournament's starting soon! Dad's supposed to show up!"

"Goku's coming back?" The name carried new weight. He'd seen Goku fight on television—now he was his father.

"Yup!" Trunks said. "From the Other World or something. Don't fall asleep again, okay?"

They dashed off, leaving Kai in the quiet hum of the tent. Sunlight filtered through the fabric, too bright, too perfect. He exhaled slowly, grounding himself.

"Well," he murmured, smiling like a villain. "Time to get stronger."

Kai stared. "A tutorial quest… and it's optional?"

He touched the panel; ripples spread like water, and it vanished.

"Alright then," he whispered. "Let's see what mastering my abilities really means."

He closed his eyes, letting his Ki circulate. The flow was warm, bright, alive—and now visible, threads of light running through invisible pathways. Adjusting them felt as natural as breathing.

Energy rose; the floor trembled slightly. Sparks danced across his skin.

His heart pounded—not from strain, but exhilaration. "So this is what a real Saiyan body feels like…"

Outside, the crowd roared as the adult fighters took the stage. Kai stepped to the tent entrance and watched sunlight spill over the ring. For a heartbeat, he saw not just the arena but the future: Buu, Beerus, gods, angels—all threads he once watched from a couch now stretched before him in real life.

He smiled faintly.

Goten waved from the stands. "Come on! Let's watch Dad fight!"

Kai grinned. "Yeah. But after this tournament… we train."

"Train?" Goten blinked. "Didn't we just finish fighting? And you usually hate training! What's with the sudden change?"

Kai's smile sharpened. "That was before. Things are gonna be different now. I'm weak—and I don't plan to stay that way."

As they ran toward the cheering stands, a faint blue shimmer faded from Kai's eyes. He caught sight of Shin and Kibito among the crowd.

Shit. I've got to move fast. I don't have much time.

He made an excuse and slipped away from the tournament, flying at full speed toward Capsule Corp, where the Dragon Balls were kept. As he flew, notifications blinked rapidly.

After a few minutes, he landed at Bulma's house and made his way to where the Dragon Balls were stored. Just as he reached for them, a voice called out behind him.

"Kai? Is that you? What are you doing here?" Bulma's voice.

He turned, momentarily stunned. Even in casual clothes, her beauty and poise couldn't be hidden. Lucky bastard, Vegeta, he thought before forcing a smile.

"Aunt Bulma, good to see you! I… need to use the Dragon Balls. It's urgent."

Bulma crossed her arms beneath her chest, eyeing him skeptically. "Oh really? Okay then, tell me what's so urgent. If it's truly important, I'll let you use them."

Silence filled the room. Kai's mind raced. I can't tell her the truth. I need a reason—fast.

Then, an idea struck.
