Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: That Recipe

Grace's POV

Sky and I have now decided to cook a dish from that book we found in the garage earlier. It had a symbol on it and it looked very old, like it had been there for hundreds of years. Flipping through the pages we both found something strange, the names of the recipes. Anyway we found a recipe to cook, 'Frosted Fern Cake', its name was. Slowly we started making the batter. After baking the cake we came across a weird ingredient called 'Warp Sugar Dust'.

"What a weird name for sugar" she said.

"Ya, I've never heard this before, but anyway I don't think I have this ingredient in our house. Let's go and ask Mrs.Hayes if she has any. She owns a restaurant after all." I replied.

Entering the restaurant we saw Mrs. Hayes serving her customers. She was a neighbor. Even with some gray hair peeking and living in her mid-thirties, she looked incredibly young.

"Hi Mrs.Hayes. How are you? It has been long since I saw you." I said

"Hi Grace. I'm fine. What about you? I can see you brought your friend along." She replied

"Mrs.Hayes, we need your help. We were baking a cake and to finish it we need an ingredient called…Warp Sugar dust…"I said

"Warp Sugar Dust…I think I have some left. Wait right here, I'll go and grab it for you." She replied and left.

"I thought it did not exist. Guess there are many ingredients we are yet to learn." said Sky. I nodded in agreement.

"Here it is my dear. Any way what are you guys baking that requires this ingredient." She asked

"Well we found a cook book in my attic this week, and we planned to bake this recipe called 'Frosted Fern Cake' and we need this ingredient to make the frosting." I replied

"Well then be careful. Keep your phones and some power banks in your pockets when you eat it. It will help you. Trust me." She said.

"Ok Mrs. Hayes. Thank you for this by the way." I answered showing the small glass jar at her.

On the way home we kept discussing why she would have told us to keep those things in ours pockets. After reaching home we made the frosting and finished the cake.

Remembering what Mrs. Hayes told us we took our phones and two power banks and slid them into our pockets.

"Finally we get to taste this master piece." She said.

"That is soooo true. I can't wait to taste it." I replied.

We lifted our spoons and attacked the cake. After finishing half the cake I felt a bit weird.

"Sky, I feel a bit weird. I'm going to lay down for a bit" I said.

"Me too, I feel a bit dizzy. I'll also come with you" she said

Going up the steps I could barely walk due to the dizziness. But finally we reached my bed and immediately collapsed on it. Waking up I saw nothing but trees. Trees as far as my eye could see. I rubbed my eyes thinking I was imagining things, but turns out I was not. Sky woke up minutes later.

"I think I am imagining things. I'm seeing nothing but trees" she said.

"Sky, you're not imagining things. This is real. We are lost in the middle of a forest" I said.

"No, this can't be true. We were taking a nap in your bedroom. How did we end up here? Did we sleep walk? Did we….." she started bombarding me with questions.

"Stop, stop, Even I'm stuck here with you. Even I don't know how we got here." I interrupted her.

"I guess Mrs. Hayes knew this was going to happen that's why she told us to carry those things." She said.

"I guess so. Let's take a look around this place to check whether there some help nearby." I said.

Sky nodded in agreement. We got up and dusted the dirt off ourselves. We then chose a way to go. Going further and further into the forest I got a bit scared. Almost an hour passed but we did not see a human in sight. Approximately twenty minutes after that we came across a cabin.

"Finally, we found a cabin at least. Let's go in and see if we can take anything." She said.

"And see if there is anything to eat. I'm starving." I added.

"Ya me too. Let's see if we can find anything to eat as well." She replied.

As we went closer and closer to the cabin the more creepy and suspicious it looked. But Sky being Sky ignored it and went inside. It looked normal from the inside, made out of wooden planks. We started looking around the cabin for things that we could use to get out of the place. After looking around for quite some time, we were able to fill a quarter of a bag we found. Hunger kicked in making my body weaker and weaker by the second. Going into the kitchen we found two sandwiches on the counter top. On taking the sandwich of the plate we found something written on the back of the sandwich. 'Garnish, Gravy, Zero-G, set my feet where they should be!' it read. We read it out loud then ate the sandwich.

"We have a long way to go. Let's lie down for some time before we continue. We don't know when we can rest again." I said

"Ya, that is true. I think I saw a bed upstairs. I'll wear the backpack just in case we teleport again" she replied.

"Good precautions." I said showing her a thumbs up with it.

I fell on the bed and was out like a ray of light. Twisting and turning on the bed I slowly started feeling the bed becoming hard and sandy. Reality snapped back in, revealing an old deer track.

"Guess we shouldn't have eaten that sandwich." I said to my half awake friend.

"Not again." Sky said with a sigh.

As she got up a piece of paper fell from her back. It was a map. On the back of it was written ' Welcome visitors, if you wish to escape this place meet me at the X mark on this map. This place is not like you think. -Chris'
