Chapter 1 - COTE - I

Months passed by in the blink of an eye since I came to this world.

During that time, I was able to discover cultures, languages, and people who are foreign to me. I mean Aurore did tell me many of her secrets, but she never told me she likely came from a world like this.

I shifted my focus and tried to recall the event that transpired that very night, the night when Aurore died, when the voices told me something, but I wasn't able to recall almost any of it. All I could remember was the voice of my sister as she knelt before a lamb with a desperate voice.

'Not my Brother, Please.'

What does that dream symbolize? What's with that lamb?

It doesn't make sense to me. Even with the enhanced memory brought by the potion, I still can't recall the reason why it all happened. I wasn't able to remember the details of the events that night despite hearing her voice vividly.

What's wrong?

Was it because I'm not strong enough?

Wha—

"You have something on your mind?"

Shattering my thoughts was the voice of a girl beside me. The girl had mid-back-length silver hair, which she tied back with black ribbons. Her eyes, which were light purple seemed to contain peace and calmness. It was my classmate Hiyori Shiina.

Godsent classmate. Aurore told me that girls like her are fragile and must be taken care of always. I thought it was bullshit, but this girl proved it otherwise. Well, in contrast to Aurore, Shiina is more fragile and lady-like.

"I'm quite interested in dreams and their interpretation," I replied blandly. "Aren't dreams one of the things in life that we still question even to this day?"

Tilting her head, Hiyori Shiina fell into thought for a moment. Seeing that, I couldn't help but play with her cheeks.

"Indeed. Dreams are one of the most fascinating things humans have yet to fully explain. But I recall that there seem to be explanations for it. Are you interested in them, Lee-kun?"

"Not really. But I'm interested in mysticism's view of dreams. Are there perhaps any books regarding them?" Forcing myself not to show my experience on my face, I tried conveying a sincere smile.

No matter how long I've been here, I'm still not used to the culture of another world. Hearing someone add —kun, —san, —chan to my name makes my stomach ache a bit.

"I never read those types of books, sorry. But if you want, I could help you find one. "

I nodded my head and thanked her. However, Shiina never took her gaze off me, as if she wanted to tell me something. Tilting my head, I conveyed my intention. She seemed troubled at first, but she sighed when she realized that I was willing to listen.

"Aren't you worried about Ryuuen?"

"Why would I be worried?"

As far as I'm aware, Ryuen didn't have his attention on me at this moment. Although I don't really meddle in the affairs of the classroom that much, he definitely doesn't look like the guy to take an interest in a quiet person like me. Even if he were to somehow show an interest in me, I'd just avoid trouble.

If I can just interpret my dream peacefully, why would I yield to violence? I'm confident enough that no one could beat a Hunter like me in a fight.

"I heard that you got into a fight with him because you refused to give him your points."

"While it might be true, it's not that serious. We were just playing house, that's all." I chuckled. "And he doesn't seem like the type of guy to indiscriminately punch his own classmate."

"Yeah, but he seems upset because of what happened in the special test. I don't think it's good to be on his bad side for now."

Closing my eyes, I listened to Hiyori. It's true, it seems like he got played by someone from class D. While I didn't really participate in the Special Test that much, I was still able to tell that Ryuuen has a plan up his sleeve. I'm a Hunter, and I can perceive "traps" in any location.

"That's because he was dumb. If only he had read the rule book, then he would've been able to create a much better plan."

Shiina shook her head as if she were looking at a problematic child. We continued chatting for the following hours before I excused myself.

However, it seems that life is full of surprises.

"Hey, dimwit. It's been a while, huh?"

In front of me was the infamous asshole of Class-C the R-4 Gang, Ryuuen and his Dogs.
