My phone vibrated against my hip. I didn't even have to look at it to know it was Mason.
A single word: SECURED.
I looked up, a slow smile spreading across my lips. But the smile didn't reach my eyes—not while I was watching the chaos in front of me.
"Jae-hyun... you're awake?" Kendella's voice was trembling, as she stumbled further into the room. "What's going on? Why are you... why are you hurting her?"
Jae-hyun didn't look at her. His face was pale, his eyes bloodshot, but his grip on the nurse's throat was like iron. He looked like a man who had climbed out of his own grave just to settle a debt.
"I would have been awake weeks ago," he rasped. "If this bitch hadn't been pumping me full of sedatives every time I so much as blinked. Every time I tried to wake up, she was there with a needle."
A collective gasp hit the room. Kendella's hand flew to her mouth, her eyes darting between Jae-hyun and the woman gasping for air in his grasp.
