I didn't breathe. My entire universe had shrunk down to the point of that needle pressing into Adrien's neck.
Vesper let out a chuckle.
"What? Are you all surprised?" she mocked, her eyes darting toward me. "Julian didn't tell you that part, right, Aurielle? I bet your little pet hacker didn't mention that Julian was the one who wrapped his hands around Marliese's throat. He did the heavy lifting while I made sure the security cameras were looped."
Kendella made a sound like a wounded animal. She looked like she was about to lunge, her fingers curling into claws, but Vesper yanked Adrien back harder, the syringe tilting at a dangerous angle.
"Don't even think about it, Kendella," Vesper hissed. "If you come any closer, I will kill your nephew right here. I have nothing left to lose."
She was unraveling, the truth pouring out of her like venom.
