Chapter 27 - Alpha Commander

Standing on top of the sanctuary were two figures, one in a shining golden armor and a dazzling sword in his hand, while the other was covered in purple fur from head to toe, claws spread wide, her eye a sunken purple.

They both stared upwards into the sky, their gaze focused on a powerful mythical beast that was ricocheting towards the sanctuary where they stood upon at full speed, its wide wings leaned backwards. Its mouth slightly opened, ready to rain fire on whatever comes in its part.

"You are not prepared for this battle, Zaya, go and join the veterans, this is not your fight." Zaya smirked and said, "I don't care if I'm not capable enough for this, this is my city, and I am going to protect it, no matter what it costs."

Korin gnashed his teeth as he muttered, "I despise desperation, just stay out of my way," he said, as he took a familiar stance.

Zaya watched in astonishment as Korin was about to perform the great technique taught to his ancestors by Edeth. He seemed to calm himself down as he stared upwards at the dragon.

And then suddenly, he vanished, launching towards the sky at a speed that could never be traced. Zaya was shocked to the hilt, she stared up towards where the dragon was.

There was a collision, dismantling the giant creature and shifting the dragon off course away from the sanctuary. Zaya saw Korin also going towards another direction.

Her hands fidgeted, it was time for her to strike, she thought. Unexpectedly, Korin twisted in the air, launching towards the dragon without anything to support him.

Zaya gasped, her mouth dangling open, she had always thought that was possible. She began wondering, maybe Korin was right about her, after all, she shook her head, ignoring the nervous thoughts.

Zaya waited patiently for the dragon to land on the ground, so she could help Korin in the fight, but it was to no avail, the dragon didn't want to land.

Zaya began having the feeling that Korin possibly had some invisible wings, because he consistently defied the rules of gravity with just one technique.

She then ran towards where the veteran battle was. The fierce Zaya wanted to test how strong she was. She had been stuck in the Phantom City for too long, it was time for some actual action.

She leaped down directly in the middle of the battle, sending the hard tarred road where there was an impact into shatters. She roared loudly as she began fighting the red Minotaurs, killing them in fives and sixes in just a few multiple strikes.

The hit from their iron hammer felt like tickles to Zaya, as she did not feel any pain, she tore through their skin with her claws like they were made of butter.

She growled hard to the sky as she felt alive. Continuous beams struck and clashed of weapons could be heard, as the veterans were finishing off the fire Minotaurs.

With the help of Zaya, the veteran segment had begun to win. Zaya's thirst had not been settled; she wanted an actual battle with an opponent that was equal to her power.

A few more minutes passed, and all the Minotaurs attacking the sanctuary began to return; they all yelled and rejoiced at their victory. Zaya kept quiet, as she felt something was wrong, she transformed into her human form and ran back into the sanctuary.

A large part of the red sky was engulfed in flames, the dragon trying to kill its prey, why Korin dodged all its attacks, twisting in the air continuously.

As it attacked the giant creature in different parts of its body, unfortunately for Korin, none of these strikes took effect on the beast's body, as its red scales seemed to have been forged from larva.

Korin aimed towards the ground, because that was the only place he could perform his ancestors' technique. The dragon roared loudly, as it remained in the sky, asserting its dominance, streaks of blood could be seen coming out of Korin's nose, as he was badly injured, but thanks to the immense battle power the technique had given him, he couldn't feel any pain.

Korin shook his head, he had to hold the dragon, he thought. Just a few more seconds, this shouldn't be too hard, leaping away from the sky, as the cowardly dragon had remained in the sky, spraying fire all over where Korin stood.

Korin summoned the technique again, giving him the strength and ability to launch into the sky and face the mythical beast.

Zaya ran through the crowd of civilians, her aim towards the other side of the sanctuary. She arrived at where Zoey's mum stood. She was in the midst of the rear veteran army, giving them some instructions.

"Chinami," Zaya yelled, as she felt a little bit weird calling Zoey's mum by her actual name. Chinami faced towards Zaya's location, as she walked towards her.

What's wrong, Zaya, the war is not over, it just got started, they are coming. Zaya, running out of breath, what do you mean, Chinami asked, we just killed tens of thousands of them.

Pauline was right, there's a higher power coming, that's why the remaining Minotaurs retreated, the fire creatures don't have the emotion of fear, they are being controlled.

Is there any way we can take everyone out of here, and fast? Zaya asked. The glint of hope apparent in her eyes.

Chinami then responded, smiling, yes, Zaya, there is, she then removed a badge that was fixed on her cloth and kept it on Zaya's chest, on the upper left.

What's this for, Zaya asked, Chinami then said, "I need you to order the whole veteran army out of here, and ask them to surround the sanctuary, not too close, and in a phalanx formation."

Zaya nodded in confirmation, while Chinami walked away towards the room where they had the meeting earlier.

Zaya then faced back, as she yelled, her tone out loud, every veteran in the army saluted Zaya, she then ordered them to March out.
