Chapter 21 - The Unknown One

There was a rattling sound. Pauline's gaze shifted from the camera's location, falling on the door knob. Someone was about to enter the room. Trickles of sweat began to fall from Pauline's head. She had to act fast.

Pauline quickly raced towards the door, shutting it quickly, her heart beating fast. A female voice from behind the door spoke, "Anne, are you alright? I heard a loud sound in your room."

Pauline shut her eyes, hoping for the woman to leave. She knew that wouldn't work. The woman opened the door, startled, as it was earlier locked. She walked into the room, the lights were off. Their room was dimly lit. Her eyes glanced around, and she saw Anne on her bed, taking a nap. She held a doubtful look. She was sure she heard a loud sound coming from there.

A bright smile appeared on her face, as she stared at the curtains. Anne never used it to cover the windows. She must have hid something, she thought. She walked towards it to raise it up, and she suddenly felt a painful hit on her neck. She blacked out.

Pauline shook her head in disappointment. This was not how she'd expected the heist to go. She dragged Anne's mum's unconscious body to the bed, beside her daughter, and covered her with the blanket, tucking her head gently on one of the pillows.

Pauline grabbed the spider camera and the diary on the shelf, shoving it into one of her side pockets. She kicked the broken drone under the bed. Her gaze met the CCTV camera. She walked towards the curtains and crawled out the window, holding on to the rope of the Zip liners. She climbed up towards the top of the building, using its glass as support.

When she arrived, she began pondering how she would get the tape of the video recording. An idea crossed her mind. She turned on her nano wrist watch, which was on her left hand, and began to tap some buttons on the nano watch. A scanner lit out. The wrist watch scanned the whole building, bringing a sketch picture of the building's structure.

Pauline zoomed in, looking for anything that seemed like a control room. She eventually found none. Could this night get any worse? She thought to herself. It wouldn't be long for them to figure out what was going on. She would have to create a distraction.

Pauline shrugged, swiping the different images on the watch. She knew there was only one way to get to the security room. She had to go by herself.

Pauline dragged the zip liners and began letting it down, bit by bit. She was heading straight to the hotel safe room. Just as she had seen through the scan from the nano wrist watch, in there was kept something very valuable.

The safe was not too far from the top. Pauline knew she wasn't going to be using the zip liner anymore. She broke the glass wall of the floor where the safe was located. Luckily, she entered the apartment.

It was an empty hallway, with a red and yellow rug on the ground and chandeliers on the white ceiling. There were two body guards stationed at the front of one of the doors on the left side of the hallway. They began to call for back up.

Pauline faced the back, grabbed hold of the Zip liner, and burnt it with a lighter. She could feel the two body guards had begun walking towards where she stood, guns in their hands, facing it towards her.

Pauline clicked her tongue. This job was meant to be for Ashara. She wondered. She was also excited, as she wouldn't miss any chance to unlock her primordial energy.

Pauline sensed they were about to pull the trigger. She back flipped, splitting her legs, as she gave them a hard kick in their heads at the same time. They both fell to the ground in a thud. Pauline dusted her hands, as she walked towards the door they were guarding.

She broke through the door lock, hitting the door open, just as she expected. It was a glittering wrist watch, inbuilt with diamonds. She grabbed it and walked out of the room.

She began to hear footsteps approaching, apparently one of the doors had led to an elevator. Pauline threw various knives, breaking the chandeliers and the bulbs, so she could blend with the dark.

Out of the door came a man with dark hair. He was Mr. Stallone's main body guard. He turned on the torch light in his hands, as he explored the area. He walked a bit forward and gestured for the other body guards to follow him into the hallway.

Immediately they all entered the hallway, the door behind them suddenly locked. The guard that was right before it tried to open it, but it was already jammed. The main body guard pushed his subordinates away. As he hit the door in utter frustration, somehow Pauline had found a way to outsmart them and get to the other side of the door.

She chuckled, as she had the loud, frustrated bangs of her main body guard on the door. She knew it mightn't hold as long as she had thought. She had to get to the next phase of her plan.

Pauline dashed through the building, aiming to take action on the next part of her plan. A girl could be seen walking out of the main residential dining room, where fancy dining parties were usually held. She had just finished serving the last batch of dishes to the visitors.

Her name was Linda. She was a new chef at the Stallone hotel, and it was her first night. She was walking back to the kitchen when her nose and eyes were suddenly covered by someone's hand.

"Do not move," the voice said sternly. "You are going to hand over your catering outfit to me. You understand?"

"Yes, of c-course," Linda replied, with a startle apparent in her voice.

A few seconds passed, Linda was lying unconscious in one secluded corner of the building, while in Linda's outfit was Pauline. She smiled, as she was getting the hang of knocking people out.

She headed straight for the control room, passing through another elevator, and getting herself ready.

Inside the building, with her, was an old man wearing dark shades and a walking stick in his hands. He seemed to be smiling, staring directly at Pauline.

Pauline looked away, as she had no time for this, she thought. The old man then spoke, "Well, if it isn't the unknown one."

Pauline was shocked. What did the old man mean by the unknown one?

Pauline was distracted from the slight hilting sound coming from the elevator, as it slowed down. Pauline's gaze fell back on where the man had stood. She was shocked to see he had vanished.
