Chapter 12 - Operating Get Conor

"Why me? Why am I allowed to respond to that query?" Katrina's brows went down.

"The reason you went outside together is that he is your father.

What other explanation do you want me to give you for that?" Escobar got furious.

Already, he was angry with George for manipulating his intelligence. Katrina is now attempting to do the same thing.

Instead, Katrina turned to face George and did not answer the question.

George could see that the uncomfortable look meant a lot.

At that point, Katrina is heavily burdened with the prospect of George's health.

Escobar, the doctor observer, was confused beyond belief. He was the only one who found it difficult to comprehend what was going on.

"Did you not hear what the doctor had to say? Answer that damn question, please. And please stop giving me that kind of stare.

It is weird to watch you do that," George agreed strangely, even though he knew how potent Katrina's answer was.

And she laughed. "Would you prefer to speak only the truth? That I can accomplish without hesitation,"

"Go ahead! Why should you take so long to decide? Do you want to avoid making the doctor wait too long?" George added. He appeared assured of her answer before she even said it.

"I am not sure what is happening between you two." Doctor Escobar panicked. He was unable to comprehend the drama.

Doctor Escobar was under a lot of pressure because neither George nor Katrina was prepared to talk and quench his curiosity.

"My father is near the medical facility.

A few minutes ago, before I entered, I had a conversation with him," Katrina disclosed.

"And you told me only after waiting this long? Regardless, I will be in my office. Request that he visit when he arrives." Escobar left after passing along the information.

It was elementary for Katrina to lie to him, even though he was very intelligent. She does it without effort and with ease.

"How come?" George inquired in the most perplexed way.

He could not afford to say anything more than those words.

He remained awed by Katrina's genius. The question of how she did that one-off crossed his mind.

"You had an excellent chance to avenge me, but you chose not to. I would like to know why you did that." George repeated the question. The question was so important to him that it dominated his entire existence.

"What is the point?

Why should I harbour resentment toward you? It does not make a difference to speak against you." Katrina justified her actions.

"The way your father raised you was magnificent. To be honest, I am quite proud of him." George admitted. He saw no need to keep hiding the truth.

He was expressing his regret for what he did to Katrina's family in the past.

To him, it wasn't deliberate. He could not bear to lose his inheritance to the orphanage home. He just had to find a way.

Katrina sobbed, "From someone you thought of as your best friend." She got to her feet, fighting back the tears that were streaming down her cheeks.

It was more than she could take.

Just as she was ready to go, George called her back. "Do not leave, please. I think you can give me the moral support I need."

Her gaze shifted to him. "I did not realize how self-centred you were. Well, guess what? I am not my dad."

She spoke with anguish in her heart and closed the door, leaving George to think and heal his wounded spirit.

. George asked himself rhetorically as his voice reverberated back to him, "How did I end up making this huge mistake?"

Soon after their acrimonious altercation, a call was placed for George.

George made the mistake of answering the phone too quickly without first verifying the caller's identity. "Hi, Kelly. How did it go?"

"Dad, which hospital are you referring to?" Over the telephone, a voice that did not sound like Kelly's spoke.

George became disoriented.

After removing the phone from his ear, he looked at the name that appeared on his screen.

He had been on the phone with his second son, Tony.

You mentioned the hospital to me. Are you in the hospital, Dad? Is Conor with you there?" Tony tossed a thousand questions at his Father.

He made it very hard for George to maintain his composure and focus.

"Son, there is nothing to be concerned about. I will be good." George gave it a wave.

Finally, the drama he was desperately trying to avoid has struck him in the most agonizing spot.

He could be certain of a drawn-out dispute with Tony. Tony is completely the opposite of Conor, who gives up easily.

George now finds himself torn between embracing peace and lying to his son.

"You want me to believe that nonsense? Go on, Dad. You ought to know me too well. I am no longer a child." Tony said, casting doubt on George's justification. It is well known to George that he is extremely intelligent.

"Son, please do not do that now."

George yelled impatiently.

Knowing the type of son he had, he chose to show his stubbornness.

Derek was too resilient for his stubbornness to save him any longer.

To relieve his burden, George's only choice was to tell Tony what had happened.

"I am in the hospital. The situation is pretty complex.". Under pressure, George explained.

Are you accompanied by anyone? What about Conor? Shouldn't he be present?" Tony left George perplexed after asking him a thousand questions.

"I have not yet fully recovered. I have to do certain things to determine how long I will take to recover," George clarified in an attempt to gain control.

He unintentionally shot himself in the leg with the explanation, but George was unaware of it. Not only did he hurt himself, but he also allowed Tony to ask more questions.

"You have, regrettably, shown no inclination to listen to me. I was making no sense to you. And I am only now learning about your attack?" Tony cried like a pitiful widow.

Despite not being present with Tony, George had a profound understanding of his situation.

George said, "You exaggerate things, and it does not even make sense," somewhat softly.

He is so overwhelmed by the situation that he has lost his ability to speak.

"If you were to have a heart attack, how do you think I would respond? Celebrate with a party or get me a car?" Tony kept ranting nonstop. He was not in the mood to stop anytime soon.

Exhausted, George muttered as he removed the phone from his ear. "What have I done to myself? I ought to have kept it from him. Have a look at the mess I have made."

"Which mess?

What are you trying to hide from me?" Tony called out.

It did not even occur to George that Tony was listening. He firmly believed that he had already hung up.
