Tonia's POV
My knuckles turned white as I gripped the shopping basket tighter, ducking my head in what I hoped looked like respectful acknowledgment.
"Good morning, Alpha Chad. I apologize for nearly colliding with you."
His deep chuckle sent an uncomfortable shiver down my spine. "No harm done at all. I had no idea you frequented establishments like this. Are you involved in pharmaceutical work?"
I managed only a stiff nod, not trusting my voice to remain steady.
"Fascinating. I merely stopped by to acquire certain supplies myself. What fortunate timing that our paths crossed today."
Fortunate? The way his eyes lingered on me suggested nothing fortunate about this encounter whatsoever.
I forced my lips into what I hoped resembled a smile while taking a deliberate step backward. "Please excuse me, Alpha. I hope you find everything you need."
