Chapter 1 - Night Chase

"Hah… hah… hah"

'Just a few minutes more.'

Bang…

"How long are you planning to hide? You coward…"

Bang… Bang…

One after another explosion rang out from outside. I tried to lower my breath as much as possible. My whole body was almost exhausted. I looked at the little bird sitting on my stomach. He was slowly emitting a green glow. I placed my hand on his head gently and whispered.

"Calm down, little guy. Nothing will happen."

He rubbed his small head against my fingers. Just at this moment, the wall behind me exploded. I quickly reacted and used the explosive force to launch out of the building, barely surviving from being buried under the debris.

I quickly threw the bird in my hand to the other side before running in the opposite direction. A crazed laugh echoed in the surroundings. But I didn't turn around, dashing forward with all my strength.

"You have been hiding for long enough, but not anymore. Haha…"

I ignored his threat and continued to move in the moonlight like a shadow. I took a look at my wrist watch, and there were still 2 minutes left.

The voice came again, "Haha… are you still not gonna see who I just caught? Haha…"

This crazy monkey never learned anything from the past. I didn't look back, just continued to run forward, without pausing.

"Fuck…"

Bang!

In the next moment, my body lay on the ground, and a giant figure of a half monkey and half human stood in front of me. His right half was that of the monkey, and the other half was of the human, with a monkey's tail swinging behind his back, and a red crystal crown on his head.

"Haha… you have run for enough time; things should end here."

I looked into my watch again; there's still 1 minute 20 seconds left before…

"Screach…"

A sound of the bird rang in the surroundings, followed by burning flames directly colliding with that Monster.

"Aa… you filthy creature."

"Screach…"

I looked from the side at the giant Monkey and Bird colliding with each other, the bird's tail stretched like a fire rope wrapping successfully around the Monkey. This made him unable to move for a short while.

In the meantime, my eyes remained fixed on the surroundings and my watch. While the two beasts fought with each other in this darkness.

"Screach…"

I turned to them again and saw that crazy monkey biting on the bird's neck.

"Fuck, this monkey is becoming more and more intelligent."

As his teeth sank into the burning bird's neck, its flames started to die, and it slowly turned back into the small bird. I quickly dashed towards the giant monkey to save the little guy from the clutches of this crazed ape.

I jumped straight at the giant monkey to catch the bird before him, and using his body to propel back in the air.

Bang…

As I thought, I have the little guy. Something hit me in mid-air as my body tore through the air, directly crashing into another building.

I looked at my watch, and it was 06:00 AM now. A relaxing smile appeared on my face.

'Finally, I survived for another Night.'

I looked in front of the Giant Monkey, whose figure was slowly fading. Leaving behind his usual words.

"I will come back again and again until I kill you. Haha…"

Once his figure vanished completely, I quickly stood up, running away from this as fast as possible.

After running for a few more minutes, I came to a broken warehouse. After looking at the surroundings for a bit, I went inside. I dragged my tired body for a little bit more before coming in front of a broken iron door, which was hiding a path inside.

I removed the door, making the path inside clearer, as I entered, while carefully placing the door behind.

After closing the door, the inside became completely black, but it was not much of a problem. I was already used to the darkness that it no longer bothered me. I walked straight inside, coming into a small room, which was filled with some dry rations and a few sets of dirty clothes.

I sat on the ground, back against the cold wall. The small bird lay in my arms, silent, taking his peaceful sleep after the horrific night.

After a few hours of a short nap, I woke up and took a pack of biscuits for a small meal. Little Bird also got his fair share. After I was done with my meal, I took out a few black stones from my pocket.

"Only 7, if this continued like this, I won't survive for much longer."

"Squeak, Squeak…"

Little bird's voice came from the side. I rubbed his head gently with my finger.

"Don't worry, little guy, that stupid monkey can't do anything to me, no matter how many times he comes."

After assuring the little guy, I sat cross-legged, using the fastest way to improve myself. I swallowed all seven stones in one go, closing my eyes.

As these stones entered my stomach, an instant amount of pain spread in my whole body like cold, icy needles being stabbed into every single part of my body. I clenched my jaw as my blood veins started to turn black.

Suddenly, the pain lessened a bit, and I opened my eyes to see that the bird was sitting on my lap, emitting the green glow. Seeing him like this, I felt sad, but nothing could be done. Harsh conditions require harsh measures.

After an hour of struggle, finally, the pain started to lessen as the black blood seeped from my seven orifices.

Huh… huh…

I lay on the ground, soaking it with black blood, making the rotting stench in the room even worse.

After a few more hours of rest, I wiped my body with dirty cloths, getting ready for another chase of life.

When I was done, I came out of my trash bin base. Staring at the orange sky as the sun was setting again, replaced by familiar darkness again.
