Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"Great just great, now my phone is dead too" Angelina let's out a long sigh, checking her phone like it was only her last hope.

Clutching the passport to her chest, she made her way through the busy crowd of passengers. She was lost? Wasn't she?

While dragging the suitcase behind her, Angelina looks around frantically. This aiport was like a maze for her...high end amenities, exclusive VIP lounge, gorment dinning and upscale shopping but where was the damn exit!

With a sense of exhaustion, Angelina slumped on the empty bench. Her hands clenched silently on her laps as if she was lost in a deep thought.

Her inner mind~

Angel's perspective: We should wait for someone Angelina.

Devil's perspective: No, are you dumb? Who will come to save us, your father?!

Angel's perspective: You better watch your tongue!

Devil's perspective: Angelina don't listen to her... listen to me, act like a woman.

In one terrifying, seamless motion,

Angelina sprang up from the bench. The other person who was seated beside her flinched, instinctively recoiling from the sudden movement which caused him tumbling off balance from the bench to the floor.

Not gloss, not matte, but somewhere in between. This car's satin metallic finish makes it look expensive and one-of-a-kind. The AMG GT's selenite grey mango finish catches the afternoon light, but doesn't glare. Yet, it seemed to be waiting for someone patiently infront of the airport terminal.

While leaning on his car, Lucas stared ahead intensely as if he was frustrated. With a sharp flick of his cuff, he exposed the intricate handcrafted watch. Where the fuck was that girl? It's been one hour now!

The power dynamic is clear in the conversation. His sentence carried an unspoken implications and hidden frustration behind his calculated mask "I have board meeting in ten minutes and yet I am waiting for a stranger like a taxi driver!" It wasn't just statement of fact; it's a reminder that his time is a precious resource that is being squandered.

The driver who was standing beside Lucas was hyper aware of his boss's irritation. His attention was split to his frustrated boss and also scanning the arrival area for the late guest.

With clothes rumpled, hair disheleved. Angelina stops abruptly at the exit, transitioning from frantic pace to a sudden, stunned silence. She stood still in that moment, simply observing the blue sky and feeling fresh air on her face.

Suddenly, Angelina raised her hands with shinning eyes "Victory is in my hand!" She was met with a hundred perplexed onlookers who shuffled past, pulling their luggage. With awkward yet confident smile, she walks ahead. But her movements were jerky and unco- ordinated like a puppet whose strings were tangled. Once again, she made a fool out of herself!

The driver was fidgeting nervously, but becomes instantly still and focused when he spots the guest emerging from the crowd "There she is, sir!"

Lucas gazed at the direction where his driver was pointing at, he can't help but look up and down at Angelina's disheleved state. A frown appeared on his handsome face "What took you so long?"

Angelina gave a weak, tired wave and offered a small sincere apology before even setting down her luggage "I am sorry, actually I got lost in the airport"

When she said that absurd phrase, his mind replayed her words to make sure he heard her correctly. A short humourless laugh escaped from his mouth "What?! Getting lost in airport? Come on, give me a break!"

When Angelina heard his small yet somewhat mocking laugh, a blush creeps up on her neck and spreading across her face "Ha ha ha, what's so funny in this? Anyone can get lost in that damn airport!"

Lucas leaned on his car and unbuttoned the jacket in a single, fluid motion, revealing the tailored waistcoat beneath "Next time, send a postcard. It might be faster than you."

Angelina turned her head with a slow, deliberate movement, her eyes tracking an invisible arc towards the sky as if seeking divine patience.

The driver, however, stood there awkwardly thinking to himself..."Am I supposed to laugh or a polite one? Did his boss mean it when he said that? Was it a joke he was supposed to get? Should I say something?"

An awkwardly great almost painful silence came down, making the driver even more nervous in that moment..."Oh god! Why am I stuck here?"

The silence descended between them, a heavy, suffocating blanket. Angelina and Lucas gave each other a challenging look, an unspoken test of who would be the first to break!

The driver watched his boss through corner of his eyes, the man's usual calculated cold personality replaced with mocking yet teasing smile. Has his boss forgot his tight schedule, over a simple reason of who wins this banter? Seriously?!

Now only one person could get this humble driver out of this awkward yet tense situation, he folds his hands together like he was praying infront of God..."Please, Sam sir? Do some miracle?! I swear I will never complaint about traffic again if you get me out of this."

Suddenly, the awkward silence was cut short by the insistent, digital trill of a phone. The sound, so out of place. The teasing grin slid off Lucas's face as he saw the name on the phone screen: Sam.

The spell was broken. Angelina watched him talk, and the banter that had been dancing between them was snuffed out, replaced by a panicked tone.

She raised her eyebrows in confusion, why did he sound this panicked.

Lucas ran a hand through his hair, his voice was hushed and a little strained "Uh, Hello" he managed. "No, I was just coming." A long pause followed with muffled sound from the other end. "Taking so long. Are you going to kill us here, landlord is waiting!" He almost answers back hastily "Yes, yes for sure."

After hanging up, Lucas let's out a heavy sigh as if he was holding his breath for too long.
