Dahlia's POV
The weight of my actions pressed down on me like a stone. I turned to Lorena, anxiety written across every line of my face. "What if Soren decides to end me for this?" The fear in my voice was real and raw.
Lorena linked her arm through mine, that familiar impish smile spreading across her features. "Honey, I've been your friend since we were in diapers, and I never knew you had this kind of nerve. But honestly? I'm here for it."
My smile felt fragile, barely holding together. Through the hospital window, darkness had settled over the city like a heavy blanket. A frown creased my brow. "Did I really sleep through the entire day?"
Lorena pressed a hand to her chest dramatically. "You scared the hell out of me, do you know that?"
A bitter laugh escaped my lips. "Alright, I'll forgive you this time since you babysat me all day."
