Chapter 5: I'm sorry but I'm not Lennie
Just when i thought the feeling would never end, I found myself in an open plain.
The feeling of a fresh breeze brushing against my skin, making my hair flutter, was a real eye opener. Only now did I recall that word in the systems name.
' Angel...' I muttered to myself in silent disbelief. I believed I would just go through the city, looking for someone to help, I didn't expect to be transported into some unknown location.
"Yes, You called?" I turned around in surprise, startled by the voice i had heard, yet i became even more stunned when I saw a handsome white haired man, dressed in white, with a crown like, golden halo on his head.
His hair matched his outfit completely, unlike my silver dyed hair that stood out like a sore thumb but that wasn't the important thing right now.
" How on earth are you alive?!"
" But you... I mean... You were?!" I kept stuttering in disbelief, trying to find the perfects words to address what was right in front of me yet no proper words came out.
" I'm sorry?" He raised a brow, confused as to why I was reacting in such a way.
" Why didn't you tell me you were alive?!" I finally managed to spit out.
The man furrowed his brows, looking a bit annoyed yet he calmed than right after.
" I believe i already made it known to you during your briefing. Are you telling me you ignored every single thing I told you before."
His words caught me off guard, well it was true that I did intentionally ignore him, but still.
" Don't try to change the subject! You're clearly alive, your not some machine which means you saw me naked. How could you be so perverted! And yet you were going on and on about commiting good deeds and earning merit" i pointed an accusing finger at him.
" Excuse me? First of all, I'm not perverted. It's only a sin when one has lustful intentions towards the other party. Why would I feel anything when looking at you?"
" P-Pardon?" I swear I could hear my own heart beat speed up from his words. What did he mean by didn't feel anything, is he trying to say I'm ugly?
" Secondly I'm your system or to be specific an angel. It's my job to supervise you as an honorary angel." He suddenly spoke up again. " If it's ok with you, could you please commence with the mission at hand." He massaged his temple, the look of suppressed irritation on his face made me even more annoyed but i managed to calm down after recalling why I was here in the first place.
' I still need that pay check– I mean, I need to help that lady find her cat.' I sighed steadying my nerves before shooting the so called angel a look.
" What is it?" He asked, frowning.
' I swear, if this man looks at me like that one more time...' I grumbled within myself, managing to hold back.
" Don't you think you might stick out like a soar thumb if you continue to, I don't know, look like that."
" No one else is able to see me besides you."
He shot me a look as if annoyed by my remark but i couldn't care any less, honestly I was even wondering what he was doing here in the first place.
" I don't care, you're too much of a distraction."
' I mean just look at you, your like a walking night light.' I glanced at him from head to toe, honestly, he didn't look displeasing to the eye, my problem was that he was just too good looking.
' I hate to say it but he really is, ... Dumb fxck'
To my surprise. He suddenly vanished the next moment and in his place was a chibi version of himself, similar to a pixelated boy, the size of an orange.
[Is this more to your liking?] He asked.
I struggled to hold back a laugh at how adorable he looked. When I saw his expression darken, I couldn't hold back anymore, he was just too adorable.
[I think we've spent enough time here as is. We can't keep the target waiting.]
" Right...right." I nodded, finally calming down.
" But where is the target?" I asked, when i realized that there wasn't anyone nor buildings in the area.
[Just follow that arrow and you should reach her]
The angel pointed up at a golden pixelated arrow hovering behind me.
' Can't believe I missed that.' I blinked, taking in the uncommon sight.
I followed the arrow like he asked, walking through the vast plain, it took a while before I noticed a hill in the distance. Atop it, I could roughly make out the sight of a small cottage on top.
" Wait a minute, If you were planning to bring me here from the very beginning. Why not just drop me off right at that cottage?"
[And risk startling an innocent bystander? Absolutely not]
' This idiot...' My eyes twitched a but I calmed down with some breaths.
' Remember the money.'
' Don't do anything rash. He's just a temptation.'
' Just remember the money, you've still got bills to pay, ok'
I managed to talk myself into going on and soon I reached the top of the hill.
The cottage looked more better up close, if i didn't know any better, I would've thought they only just finished building it yesterday.
' One strange thing after the other.' I raised my hand to knock on the door before stopping.
"What am I doing? Wouldn't it be strange for someone to come asking if you lost your cat when you live all alone on some hill?" I muttered to myself.
" Huh? Is someone there?"
" ...!" I stiffened when I heard an Old woman's.
" Lennie, is that you
?" I heard footsteps coming from the other side of the door. For an Old lady, they sure weren't slow.
