Chapter 1 - Remembrance? Or A Dream?

It would be a challenge for him to open his eyes, different from the grogginess that accompanied waking from a long rest -this would feel like someone was holding his eyes shut or they were not meant to be opened in the first place.

For a while the man wondered where he was at, he could barely hear. But he was- by the feel of his hands and body, laying the ground; Its texture soft and coarse like ruined soil. And with his eyes finally being pried open by sheer force he would find that, at least that much would be true.

But in addition to the scorched earth beneath him, there would be a curious red liquid he was familiar with.

Blood..

But now why would blood be laying beneath him?..

Certainly not enough to signify something as sinister as a murder.

So where was it from?

The blood would drip towards the ground slowly forming a small red splotch in the dirt beneath his head

His hand would raise towards his eyes and nose; the motions instinctive.

And as they lowered what would greet him would be more blood- and fresh too.

And the red puzzle would finally connect.

It's his blood…

And as this connection would be met, like it was almost not there to begin with- his hand would blur and his eyes would focus on the scene around him.

And horrific would be putting it lightly…

The scorched ground would stretch out to seem like the whole world around him. And marching across it would seem like soldiers, but he would laugh at the idea of calling them that much… Their bodies were wrong. Not in an unfit and unhealthy manner… but totally in that way.

They were pitch black with liquid dipping off of them as they ran forward. Some had additional limbs where they didn't need any, some even had weapons coming from said limbs. The weapons themself were as dark as the creatures. Dripping the same amorphous sludge that trailed off the beasts; had they not moved and fired in the similar vane most weapons do he would have simply thought it part of the creatures themselves.

Opposite to the beast were almost creatures of the same likeness of them. Different only in the fact that they were a bright white color, funny enough these creatures also lacked the additional limbs that the creature to his side supported.

When they met in their conflicts the one who was injured would fall into a mass of liquid with the same color they sported.

Above him he would not just hear but also see hover crafts dropping more white creatures whilst more of the black horde seem to rush in unending.

Wa- Up…

a feminine voice would call quiet and distorted

It wasn't right, yet this still all felt real.

Wake up…

The voice would continue to call it words more clear that before

He didn't want to be here anymore

Jake…

The voice would call him again just as soft as before but this time with more force behind it

Jake? Was I Jake? I can't remember a thing before this…

WAKE UP JAKE!!!

Cracks would appear in the world around him, all growing in size before not long the sound of glass shattering would fill his ears. And the only thing that would be left around him as he fell in darkness would be the glass of a fractured world… or perhaps…

A dream?.....

His back would find itself on the ground.

Soft, vibrant green grass surrounding him. He didn't even remember blinking in the darkness before the light appeared.

Above him harmless soft white clouds trailed along the pretty blue sky…

Not the same as the dark smoke that filled the dark sky of….

That….

And as he looked down he would see not armies of beings but a single lone person standing before a large tree…

The person's silhouette reminded him of someone.

Jake…

Her soft voice did the same.

It reminded him of his mother

His eyes widened at the thought and he scrambled to his feet and ran to the silhouette before the grass could even fall to the ground.

He ran with all his might…

With all he had…

And yet she just kept getting farther and farther….

He wanted to quit running

But the Idea of failing her again to remove that thought swiftly

But wait….

Again?...

And with that thought once more would the world crack and break around Him…
