Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Hunting 1

"Where is she! We were supposed to go for a hunt today, but we barely have enough food!" Sokka grumbled in annoyance as he walked towards Norrak's igloo.

Today was the usual hunting day, and he and Katara went to look for any food source they could catch. Fish from the icy waters, maybe some meat from the icy terrain if they are lucky.

But finding any animal they could bring back as a food source was extremely rare for them. The only times this had happened were when they managed to source a killed animal that died in battle.

But that barely qualified as a hunt due to the amount of meat that remained on the dead animal, eaten by the predator that killed it in the battle that resulted in its death.

In the harsh and frigid climate, the best opportunity for food lies in heading to the icy waters to hunt for fish. Since the ice village is small, catching 15 pounds of fish can provide enough food for an entire week.

Sokka is not skilled at hunting or scavenging for food, nor is he adept at tracking animals in the deep snow. The best he could manage was fishing, which isn't too bad; he fulfils his role as the sole able-working hunter in the village.

He deserves respect.

Knock!

Knock!

Sokka knocked on Norrak's hut, and then pushed aside the curtain leading inside his only and best friend's igloo. Sokka looked up and froze at the sight.

His sister was lying on Norrak's chest, burying her face in his chest, and Norrak was smiling as he rubbed her back, his other arm wrapped around her waist in a firm hold.

"Hey! What the hell is going on here? You're not even married yet!" Sokkay shouted in disbelief, looking away in disgust. Norrak looked up, chuckling in amusement, while Katara had her face turn red.

"Don't shout, Sokka. Katara and I were cuddling, you know. Normal couple of things, but if I may ask. Where is your maiden?" Sokka froze at Norrak's question, and he turned around to storm out in annoyance.

"You know I can't get a maiden here!!!" Sokka's voice echoed from the outside, and Norrak chuckled while Katara looked up at him with happy eyes.

Norrak and Katara looked at each other for a few seconds, the atmosphere between them heating up before they were startled as Sokka called for Kata from the outside.

"Hey, we have a hunt to do if you remember! Or did looking into Norrak's unfairly good-looking eyes scramble your brain?" Sokka said, peaking into the igloo.

"Shut up, you jerk!" Katara said with embarrassment as she threw a ball of water into Sokka's face. The cold water splashed onto Sokka's face, and the cold turned it into ice, causing Sokka to yelp in cold.

"H-Hey! Watch your bending- Ughh, what am I seeing right now?" Sokka paused in the middle of his shouting, and his eyes locked onto Norrak, who was also frozen.

The water that splashed against Sokka flew towards Norrak, but they did not want to get wet in the cold and harsh weather. Norrak shouted in his mind for the water to stop.

And to his shock and surprise, it stopped an inch from his face, floating in the air like it was waiting for another command from him. Katara turned around, and she also froze.

"Y-You are a freakign waterbender?! Why had god forsaken me like this! Why not me? It should have been me, not him!" Sokka screamed, falling onto his knees as he hammered the snow with closed eyes.

"Norrak! You can bend water like me, that means we are both waterbenders!!!" Katara did not have an ounce of envy or jealousy at not being the only one to be able to bend water anymore.

She looked at Norrak with shining eyes, the sight of the floating water making her heart beat in excitement. His body was okay now, and he could now bend water.

Was Norrak blessed by the spirits? Katara questioned in her mind as she looked at Norrak, happy for him from the bottom of her heart.

Norrak ignored the commotion, too absorbed in his world as he looked at the water droplets in the air. His size eyes activated at full power, and he ignored even the sharp pain.

He could see it.

He could see the energy called Chi in the universe of Avatar. It was calm, and its size was smaller than Katara's, whose Chi was massive for some reason.

'Why is her Chi amount so massive? Mine is like a flickering flame compared to a bonfire... Was Katara born with such massive amounts of Chi in canon?' Norrak thought in confusion.

He was not worried about having a small amount of Chi reserves, because he knew that with the Six Eyes he was born with, his control of energy was so perfect that the amount of energy wastage was close to an infinitesimal amount, resulting in almost infinite Chi for usage.

But he still did not answer the question he had in his mind. But he slid past it since Katara would not know the answer to that. Instead, he slowly controlled the water in the air to collect it into a perfect sphere.

It almost looked solid as it hovered above his palm. The water did not show a single ripple as Norrak moved it around, showcasing Norrak's perfect Chi control.

"Well, since I can waterbend, what do you say you allow me, your best friend, to come with you on this hunt?" Norrak broke Sokka and Katara out of their thoughts as he asked.

"I mean... I guess you could come, but isn't your body sick?" Sokka sked with worry as he looked at Norrak. He knew how sick he was, so he was confused why he would risk it.

"No, I was actually healed this morning-"

"You are blessed by the spirits! When are they going to bless me once?" Sokka asked, looking at the sky while his hands were high up in the air. Norrak sighed at the scene.

"Stop making a drama, and let's get ready for the hunt. Unless you want the village to starve," Norrak said, and Sokka immediately got up with a nod.

"Ahem! Did you forget about asking permission from someone?" Katara coughed in her palk, glaring at Norrak as she asked him with a sharp tone. Norrak chcukled, sweat sliding down his temple.

"Can I go?..." Norrak asked.

"Yes," Katara nodded, a satisfied smile creeping up onto her face.

__________________________

Norrak has perfect Chi control on the atomic level due to his Siz Eyes. But at the current strength and processing power his brain can handle, he can only use a portion of his Six Eyes, and for a minute at most.

Or his brain will start to be strained, and eventually hurt. Resulting in becoming a vegetable or even dying. I have something big planned for Katara in this fic.

Leave a power stone!
