Robinah knew her grandmother would face an accident in the market today which would affect her life and after three months, she would die. In her previous life ,she didn't get a chance to say even a simple goodbye. Her grandmother had always warned her neither to go back nor try to figure out her true roots. She never understood till her death. Now with a second chance at life, she vowed to investigate everything clearly before making a decision. Lost on thought, she finally spotted her grandmother buying vegetables.
She hurried up and reached her grandmother, just in time to see the stall owner shoving her away.
"Grandma!" She called rushing to hold her.
" What are you doing here?" Her grandmother asked looking dazed.
"You two poor people better leave now, you don't have money yet you keep pricing my vegetables." The stall owner, a chubby woman said pointing at them angrily.
Robinah had always lived a simple life with her grandmother. She didn't expect her grandmother to be so poor. No wonder she always went off to collect scraps to sell.
" Let's go grandma. From now on, I will work hard and take care of you. You don't need to collect scraps anymore." She said supporting her to walk home. The whole walk home was in silence. Robinah kept asking herself why her so called parents didn't support her grandmother in her old age. She remembered that in her previous life, they always made her believe they had taken care of her even while in the countryside. But the truth was nothing close to what they claimed.
After arriving home, she helped her grandmother sit down before rushing off to bring her a cup of water from the kitchen. She was happy she had averted the accident.
" Why are you smiling at yourself?" Her grandmother asked
"I just thought that I have the best grandma in the world." She uttered shyl.
"Ha ha ha, you are such a sweetheart." She said ruffling through her hair.
" Grandma, I need to discuss something with you."
"What is the problem, is it about going to the city?"
" No and yes, I have decided to accept the university admission sport at X international university . I will go to the city but not to look for my parents and I want you to come with me."
" I am glad you have decided to continue with your studies, but I can't come with you. How will you take care of me? I don't want to burden you."
" No grandma, they promised me a bonus of one hundred thousand if I accept. That will be enough to get a small apartment and once I start school, I will work hard and earn more." She lied about the money planning to accept a few jobs on the black web market.
" I didn't know about the bonus."
After thinking about it, she agreed since she was worried about her granddaughter. She couldn't be at ease if she went alone.
" Okay grandma, we will leave tomorrow afternoon for the city then." She concluded the conversation. They had to leave before her parents came looking for her in two days time.
That night, she packed a few things in her shoulder bag. Despite being poor, her grandmother bought her new dresses every month. She also packed her medicine box. She had inherited it from her master two years back when he left the village. After packing, she helped her grandmother with her packing and went back to her room to complete her task. She slept late after receiving her payment.
**At the Grays residence in the city ***
A family of three sat down talking and making preparations to go get Robinah.
" We need to hurry up before Jessica's pregnancy starts showing." Mrs Gray suggested
" Am planning on going tomorrow, we can no longer wait." Mr .Gray said
" Daddy, mummy am so sorry I have disappointed you. I will come with tomorrow and after our plan succeeds, I will marry Alexander and take care of our family." Jessica said looking down with guilt. Her parents had always allowed her to do whatever she wanted. That is why she started dating at an early age. She had had multiple boyfriend's and couldn't even tell who had impregnated her. Now they had to use Rozinah and hide her shameful pregnancy.
" Don't worry, everything will be taken care of." Her mother said looking at her husband who just snorted and looked away. He was really angry this time.
After giving some instructions regarding their journey. They went to bed looking forward to tomorrow.
Jessica went to her room and lay down on her soft bed. Remembering what happened the day the family doctor announced she was pregnant. Her parents were shocked and wanted to terminate it immediately but the doctor said it would be life threatening. Her father was so angry that he slapped her. Then her mother remembered Robinah and that is when they came up with a plan. Thinking of this, she sighed and went to sleep.
