Chapter 1 - ROLLERCOASTER

 (WILS)

That evening, my phone rang... it was Wils. When I answered, the first thing he asked was, "Did you think I wasn't going to call?" it was my birthday that day.

I smiled and told him, "Of course not, I knew you would."

But that was a lie, the truth is I hadn't thought about him in forever., yet as he sang a hoarse slightly off-key version happy birthday song, guilt instantly washed over me.

Wils was my ex-boyfriend, things hadn't ended well between us, but he was a good person, too good for this world honestly.

He was my third and last boyfriend. Our story had started in the most random way. one afternoon, my friend Binta was scrolling through snapchat on her phone when a particular guy caught my attention. Jokingly, I told her, "Tell him to send his groom price!" we laughed it off, of course... I was single and not even searching.

The next day, Binta and I were sitting on our balcony, casually ranting about how men are the scum of the earth, when she suddenly started grinning like a child handed a bag of candy.

"Binta, who are you texting with so much glee? you and I both know you're single to stupor," I teased.

"Ola, he said I should give him your number," she replied, still smiling.

"who's he I asked, confused.

Wils now!" she said excitedly, like I was supposed to know who that was.

"Wils? Who is Wils?" I asked again, now clearly impatient.

"The guy you wanted to pay his groom price for yesterday!"

Binta, you didn't!" I gasped. "You know I'm not ready to talk to anyone."

"What's the big deal? What's the worst that could happen? You two might never even meet," she shrugged. And honestly, she had a point.

That night Wils texted me. And just like that, our not so long love story began. it was a long-distance relationship, but we decided to give it a shot. After five months of texting and ghost dating, I finally travelled to see him. He wasn't exactly what I had pictured, but he was so kind...so kind...and I appreciated that.

I truly thought it could work. But just two months before our one-year anniversary, I began to lose interest. I know it sounds cliche, but it really wasn't about him... it was me. That's what I told Binta when she asked.

When I broke up with him, he called, he texted, but I couldn't bring myself to respond. How could I explain something I didn't even understand myself? Looking back, maybe I hadn't healed. Or maybe, just maybe, I was never truly attracted to him.

When he couldn't reach me, he started calling Binta and even my sister. Binta told him to move on. Wicked girl.

EMMA

If pride were a person, it would be Emma. I also met him through Binta. They had grown up in the same neighborhood and were childhood friends.

Emma was all talk, they say women react to what they hear, and in my case that couldn't be truer. Emma always knew the right things to say and i aways believed him, when i fell for him, I fell hard.

Things were perfect until they weren't.

He started getting paranoid. He suspected every move I made. At one point he told me I should cut off all my male friends as he suspected they had romantical feelings for me.

I didn't realize his fear was rooted in who he was: a cheat

I wasn't one to listen to gossip but when close acquaintances started whispering about his escapades, I had to confront him and when I did, he looked me dead in the eyes and denied all of it.

Of course, I believed him. But when the girl he was cheating on me with sent me a message on Facebook telling me to stay away from her boyfriend, I knew I had to let him go.

The disrespect, the embarrassment... I was done!

Two years have passed, and would you believe he's still begging me to take him back? I told Binta.

Binta took my phone, deleted his number without blinking and said he never deserved me.
