EXT – HOWLSBURG STREETS – NIGHT
A pack of werewolves roams the streets of Howlsburg.
A boy related to them follows, holding a ring with a glowing diamond.
The ring is not glowing at first, but lights up as bright as the moon when he nears his family.
RANDY
They're close.
Randy uses binoculars to see the werewolf pack trying to slow down a speeding blimp.
One werewolf grabs a rope of the blimp with her mouth and stops it.
Three werewolves jump aboard and evacuate the people inside the blimp.
They place the people safely on a roof while the werewolf holds onto the rope.
Another werewolf pops the blimp with claws, deflating it.
The werewolf holding the rope lets go, and the deflated blimp falls to the ground.
EXT – HOWLSBURG STREETS – NIGHT – CONTINUOUS
The werewolf leader, Rodney, finds his 10-year-old son, Randy, who is fully human.
RODNEY
Randy? What are you doing here? Why aren't you at home in bed?
RANDY
I may not be a wolf yet. But I'm still a night person and love watching you guys in action.
MAX
How did you find us?
RANDY
With my hunting extinct?
The ring falls out of Randy's pocket and glows.
JULIEN
The moonstone ring.
Rodney picks up the ring.
RODNEY
So this is how you tracked us.
RANDY
Well, yeah.
MAX
You idiot. If the moonstone falls into the wrong hands, it can be used against us.
RANDY
Relax, Uncle Max.
Randy puts the ring on, and it glows as werewolves surround him.
RANDY
As long as I keep the ring on my finger, it won't fall into anyone's hands except mine.
RODNEY
I'll take the ring and Randy home.
EXT – WEREWOLF ROCK – NIGHT
Rodney takes a detour to Werewolf Rock with Randy on his back.
Randy gets down and cuddles his dad.
RANDY
Werewolf Rock. I love you, Dad.
RODNEY
I love you, too, son.
Rodney trips and drops Randy into the road.
A man in a car almost hits Randy, but stops quickly when he sees him.
Randy's ring glows, and Rodney saves him from being run over.
Hunter, the man in the car, sees Rodney save Randy and goes after him, thinking Randy is in danger.
At the top of Werewolf Rock, Randy and Rodney sit on the cliffside, gazing at the full moon.
Randy holds his ring up to the moon, and he sees that its glow matches the moon's.
RANDY
I'm sorry I stole the moonstone from your room. I want to be a wolf like you.
RODNEY
Randy, you're 10. You must wait until you're 13 to get your powers.
And once you do, the moon changes you into the wolf it thinks you should be.
RANDY
I can't wait. I bet I'll be as big as you when I change for the first time.
Rodney kindly hits Randy and says, "Don't push it."
EXT – WEREWOLF ROCK CLIFFSIDE – NIGHT – CONTINUOUS
Hunter shows up and calls out for Randy.
HUNTER
Little boy, where are you?
Hunter sees a wolf's paw on the side of the rock and looks up to see Rodney in werewolf form, smiling.
HUNTER
Werewolf!
Hunter screams in fear and backs away toward the cliff edge unknowingly.
RODNEY
Get away from the edge.
Rodney tries to warn Hunter, but Hunter doesn't understand werewolf language.
Hunter falls off the edge, screaming, and Rodney saves him.
RODNEY
Randy, he doesn't understand me. Tell him I'm trying to help him.
RANDY
Sir, he's trying to help you.
Hunter climbs back up while Rodney falls off the side.
RANDY
DAD!
Uncle Max sees what happened and grabs Randy with his mouth.
Randy drops the moonstone ring, and Hunter picks it up.
HUNTER
No. Leave the boy alone.
Hunter holds the ring up to Uncle Max, and it glows brightly.
The light dims when Max leaves, taking Randy with him.
INT – WEREWOLF PACK HOUSE – NIGHT
Max and Randy return home and break the news to the werewolf pack.
The pack searches for Rodney.
The werewolves place a double picture frame of Rodney in human and werewolf form on a table with gifts.
RANDY
No, don't give up on him. What if he's still out there?
ANNA
I'm sorry, Randy. We've looked everywhere. He's gone.
Randy runs out of the room crying.
ANNA
Randy.
Randy runs up to his room and slams the door shut.
He lies on his bed, saying he's worried they haven't looked in the right place or asked the right questions.
Anna scratches Randy's door, also in werewolf form.
ANNA
Randy, open the door.
Randy opens the door and lets Anna in.
Randy sits by the window, looking out, hoping his father is still alive.
ANNA
Randy, I'm sorry. You can wait for him all you want; he's not coming home.
RANDY
I thought mothers were supposed to make you feel better when you're depressed.
ANNA
That's what I'm trying to do.
RANDY
Well, you guys never found him. So what proof do you have that he's gone?
ANNA
Even if we kept up the search, I don't think we could find anything.
RANDY
Maybe we can't. But the moonstone can.
Randy reaches into his pocket for the moonstone, but it's not there.
RANDY
Oh, no. The moonstone ring. It's gone.
I must have dropped it when Uncle Max grabbed me.
And I bet that man who almost ran me over now has it.
ANNA
No problem. We'll find this man and retrieve it.
I'll tell the pack, and you'll get in bed.
RANDY
Yes, ma'am.
Randy gets into bed and falls asleep.
The werewolves run out of the house to look for the man who has the moonstone ring.
Randy looks out his window, watching his family leave while he goes to bed.
