Chapter 6 - Chapter 6

EXT – NEAR HUNTER'S MUSEUM – NIGHT

Randy and Eliza run laughing, having escaped from Hunter's museum.

RANDY

We did it; we got the moonstone ring back. Thanks for the help, partner.

ELIZA

I wouldn't say "partner".

RANDY

Ok. Teammate?

ELIZA

Don't push it.

RANDY

Ok, Pal?

ELIZA

How about you be a pal and take me to the meat.

RANDY

Um, yeah. About that.

ELIZA

About what?

RANDY

The meat. It's complicated.

ELIZA

Room full of meat? Sounds pretty uncomplicated to me.

RANDY

No. What I mean is that right now is not the best time for me to bring a dog home.

ELIZA

Oh, I get it. I guess Golden Retrievers aren't good enough for Alaskan Malamutes. Or one Alaskan Malamute gets what they want, they don't have to hold up their end of the deal.

Eliza runs away, upset.

Randy feels guilty and follows her.

RANDY

Eliza.

Randy loses Eliza's trail for a while and passes a suspicious wig store.

He finds Eliza lying in a box near the store.

RANDY

Eliza?

ELIZA

What do you want? You got your dumb ring.

RANDY

I wanted to see if you were ok. Also, what is this place?

ELIZA

What does it look like? My home. Also, I'm fine. Besides, it's not the first time I've been ditched.

Eliza tells Randy about her past growing up in a pet store, where no one wanted her.

She escaped and became a stray, using tricks to evade dog catchers.

ELIZA

When you live a life like mine, nobody cares for you, so you must think and care for yourself.

RANDY

Um, Eliza. I know how you feel. Like I said, my father was taken from me, just like your home was taken from you.

Randy shows the ring they stole from Hunter.

RANDY

That's why I have to take home this ring. If I do, they'll take me seriously. Some of my family members don't like me.

But I'm betting that if I take back the ring we lost, I'll probably be at the head of the pack.

ELIZA

Randy, it doesn't matter how old or young you are or if you bring home a ring. What matters is what's inside.

RANDY

My father used to say stuff like that.

ELIZA

Then he was a good father. But I bet my advice was better.

RANDY

Just as good. And I'm sorry I can't take you home. It's not your fault. It's not you, it's them. It's my family.

You see, I'm a were...I'm a werewol...

ELIZA

A what?

RANDY

I'm aware I hurt your feelings.

ELIZA

Oh, you're just now figuring that out.

INT – HUNTER'S HOUSE – NIGHT

Hunter looks at a picture of Randy's watch and notices a familiar crest.

HUNTER

Wait, I recognize that crest. It's the W crest for the wolf family.

Hunter goes to Randy's Uncle Max's dog pound to investigate.

He finds many dogs, but no evidence that Max is a werewolf.

Unable to prove werewolves exist, Hunter leaves to search for more evidence.

INT – WOLF FAMILY HOME – NIGHT

Randy's family grows concerned and searches for him.

MRS. WOLF

Still no sign of Randy. That's it, I'm calling the police.

MAX

No. Just what are you going to tell them? Your werewolf son is missing and can be either a human or a werewolf.

Even you know that our identities must stay hidden.

MRS. WOLF

You're right; they're going to think I'm a crazy person. It appears that we'll have to continue searching.

INT – UNKNOWN – NIGHT

Morning comes, and all werewolves change back to humans except Randy, who remains a werewolf.

Mrs. Wolf decides to search for Randy in her human form before sundown.

Randy sleeps in Eliza's box, dreaming about losing his father and feeling uncared for by his family.

Eliza wakes and sees Randy still asleep.

ELIZA

Rise and shine. I found our breakfast.

EXT – BUTCHER SHOP – MORNING

Randy follows Eliza to the butcher shop, where she taught him to beg.

They see other dogs putting on cute faces.

The butcher gives each dog a hot dog, but gives Randy a steak because he looks adorable.

Randy eats the steak in one sitting.

Eliza pins Randy to the ground and tries to find the steak in his mouth for a bite.

Eliza gives up and reminds Randy about the promised meat.

ELIZA

You may have gotten that steak, but you still owe me the promised meat.

RANDY

Oh, right. I know it's not a good time for me to bring you or any dog home right now.

But I bet my family would understand if you took me home, and then you can have your meat.

ELIZA

Fine. I'll take you home. But only if you promise to give me double the meat you promised because two places mean twice as much.

RANDY

Ok, deal.

Randy and Eliza shake paws and agree on their deal.
