Recently there was this new family who moved into the creepy old house across the street.
I was in my living room watching a movie with my best friend Rosalee when we looked outside and seen a moving truck across the street,
Rosalee turned to me and said "there's no way someone actually moved into that house"
turning away from the window Rosalee says with a snicker "I've heard that the mice and cockroaches has mutated there"
I let out a slight chuckle still staring at the family of 3 who were now unloading their belongings off of the moving van.
There was something off about the 3 of them. I don't know if it was the house or them but something felt off.
Around 5 PM Rosalee and I received a text message from our friend David who we've known since kindergarten.
The text message read "do you guys want to hangout tomorrow after school?, my mom can pick us up"
Rosalee was the first to respond saying "sure what do you guys want to do?" I quickly followed up by saying "we should go to that one pizza place we always used to go to".
I turned my phone off just for the screen to turn back on as David liked my message. Putting my phone into my pocket,
I then turned to Rosalee. "What time are you getting picked up?" I ask , noticing the sun was setting.
Rosalee looked down at her phone checking to see if her mom had answered. A disappointed look spread across her face as the only notification was from the group chat.
"I'll just walk home." Rosalee says as she stands up from my creaky red couch. I noticed the look on her face as she looked down at her phone, but I wasn't sure why she made that expression so I stayed quiet.
Rosalee started to put on her shoes as I heard my parents car pull into the drive way.
I got up from the couch and walked outside. "Mom, new neighbors moved in across the street."
Growing up mom always talked about how that house was haunted. Saying how each Halloween night her and her friends would go trick or treating, and every Halloween night the house across the street would never give out any candy.
She told me that one Halloween her and her friends decided to Vandalize that house, they threw eggs and toilet paper at it.
She told me about how that night an egg hit the old wooden door and it creaked open, she wanted to paint on the old, wooden door.
Out of curiosity she took a small peak inside to see a man staring back at her. Not talking or moving, simply looking into her eyes causing her to scream.
All these years later mom still tells me this story every Halloween to ensure I don't mess with that house.
But now I'm starting to believe it's just an old fairy tail to keep kids from messing with old houses.
Rosalee followed behind me as my mom and dad looked across the street to the old house. Seeing the new car and moving trucks. I looked at my moms face to see her reaction, expecting nervousness or worry but instead she just shrugged her shoulders."
Finally that house needed to be sold." My father says as he grabs his work bag out of the backseat. "I heard they were going to get rid of it because of the rumors."
Mom says as she locks the car and starts to walk inside. "And because of the smell" Dad whispers into my ear with a chuckle while following after my mom.
I was surprised that they didn't seem to care as much as I expected them to but my attention got redirected as Rosalee put on her headphones.
"I'll see you at school alright?" Rosalee says as she waved before starting to walk away. I nodded my head before looking back at the house wondering why the hell would anyone want to live in a house like that?
