Davina's eyes lit up as she requested a drink from me. I complied, and soon she held a vibrant cocktail, her frame gradually unwinding.
I sensed she craved an escape from her existence, her hardships, and her family for one evening.
The alcohol began working its magic, loosening Davina's tongue and unleashing her emotions.
Her conversation turned to her family, her tone carrying both melancholy and fury. She revealed her disgust for her surname and this place, her words flowing like water through a broken barrier.
"You think calling me a Hughes hurts me?" She laughed. "Nothing hurt more than waking up and knowing that's my name."
"And you," she pointed directly at me, her eyes narrowing. "Always calling me Hughes," she hiccupped.
"Oops," she whispered, placing her hands over her mouth before bursting into uncontrollable giggles.
"My name is Davina, Davina-Davina."
