Davina's POV
More Secure?
When my eyes found Irvin, my pulse stuttered. He wore a crisp white polo and dark pants, his watch and chain catching the moonlight. Wealth and elegance radiated from him, making my chest tighten with something I couldn't name.
Irvin looked effortlessly stunning.
"Hi," Irvin said, that deep voice making me shiver as he settled beside me.
"Hi," I managed, barely breathing the word.
Silence stretched between us for a few heartbeats.
"Thank you," I said, finally meeting his gaze.
Irvin's face remained blank. "I would have done it for anyone, Hughes. You ain't special."
There was the Irvin I knew. The words stung, a sharp ache blooming in my chest, but I shoved it down. He was just being his typical blunt self. I forced my lips into a smile. "I know I'm not special. Still, thank you."
Irvin gave a curt nod, his eyes narrowing. "Good. Now come on, I'll take you home."
