Chapter 160 - Ava, the Ghost

Peter was surprised. "That's a coincidence, mine's the day after tomorrow too."

The white figure took a step back, perfectly obscuring the underground lab behind her, and a chilling aura emanated from her. "You're Spider-Man, aren't you? The abilities you'll gain will bring you glory, while I'll only receive endless pain!"

"Endless pain?" Peter was slightly taken aback, quickly connecting the dots to the situation in Earth-120703.

The difference between Doctor Lizard and Amazing Spider-Man, despite having similar origins, was vast.

Before being "enlightened" by Jean Grey, the former was, to put it mildly, mentally unstable; to put it bluntly, a monster – either way, not good.

But the latter was extraordinary, even his codename was Amazing Spider-Man.

Perhaps this person was like Doctor Lizard, and her powers had some kind of flaw when she gained her abilities.

"If you don't mind, maybe I can try to find a way to help you?" Peter tentatively extended his goodwill.

He had already guessed that since this person appeared in Bill Foster's underground laboratory, and from her actions just now, she also subtly hinted at wanting to protect the laboratory.

Then, she was very likely someone connected to Bill Foster.

A wife?

A daughter?

In any case, if he could establish a somewhat friendly relationship with this person, he might be able to obtain the information he wanted about the Second Generation Venom Symbiote from Bill Foster without resorting to force.

He wasn't some kind of psychopath; if he could achieve his goal peacefully, why would he use his fists?

Moreover, the answers he got with his fists might not be entirely accurate, and he would have to spend effort verifying them later.

"Help? I don't need your pity!" The white figure seemed agitated by Peter's words, suddenly becoming excited and shouting as she charged towards him.

As she rushed forward, her form flickered, becoming ethereal several times, as if she had vanished from this world for brief moments.

Peter was surprised.

He first ruled out a technique similar to Astral Projection.

Then, there was only one other possibility: a change in her body caused by some unknown reason.

Could it be unstable molecular structure? Living beings are composed of organic molecules. If her body's organic molecules were unstable for some reason, appearing and disappearing intermittently, it would produce an effect similar to what he was seeing.

"Friday, help me look up this person's information." Peter dodged her attacks casually, speaking to Friday, who was assisting him via comms.

Karen wouldn't be able to find anything about this. Only Friday, with full access to the databases of Stark Industries and the Avengers, could find it quickly and accurately.

As for the attacks from the person in front of him, they posed no threat to Peter whatsoever.

Her flickering, but not quite sparkling, special movement technique was indeed quite intimidating to ordinary people.

After all, it's hard for the average person to tell where she'll pop out from and take a swing at you.

But for Peter, who possessed Spider-Sense, her actions were completely unnecessary.

Because he had discovered a major weakness of hers.

That is, although she could enter a phantom state while moving, she had to become solid to attack.

Because only a solid form could attack a solid form!

Unless she was a mage, capable of manipulating special dimensional energy, or using elements that actually exist in reality to attack.

Otherwise, this was unavoidable.

And once she entered a solid state, Peter could seize the opportunity to grab her in that instant!

Even kill her!

Just that Peter didn't do that.

With his well-developed Spider-Sense and agile movements, Peter moved back and forth through the small underground lab as if he were taking a leisurely stroll, despite the white figure's continuous attacks.

He went to the computer, operated the mouse, and quickly glanced at the screen; then, he went to the strange device that looked like a "Doraemon" size-changing tunnel, tapping and knocking on it; then, he suddenly appeared behind the white figure, who had revealed her physical form to attack him, tapped her shoulder, and showed a row of white teeth after she turned her head in terror.

The white figure was toyed with by Peter the entire time.

But she didn't seem to notice this.

Or perhaps she didn't care.

She seemed to have entered a state of mental instability, feeling very frantic.

Perhaps it was impotent rage?

But Peter didn't bother with her.

As he moved around the underground lab, Peter used the scanner on his Tactical Gauntlet to scan the instruments and some of the experimental data into Friday's system.

At this moment, Friday finally responded.

"Mr. Parker, relevant records found."

"Ava Starr, codename Ghost Agent, is the daughter of Elihas Starr."

"Elihas Starr was once Hank Pym's experimental assistant, but was later dismissed from the experiments by Hank Pym due to some experimental issues."

"After being dismissed by Hank Pym, Elihas Starr did not give up his research. He secretly conducted independent research on quantum experiments, but accidentally caused an explosion. In the accident, Elihas Starr and his wife were killed instantly, and the body of their daughter, Ava Starr, was also affected by the radiation, becoming a state of extremely unstable molecules."

"Later, S.H.I.E.L.D. found Ava Starr, made her a containment suit, and trained her to be an invisible agent, codenamed 'Ghost'."

"After S.H.I.E.L.D. collapsed, Ghost Agent Ava Starr took advantage of the chaos to sever contact with S.H.I.E.L.D. and disappeared."

"In addition, I found an adoption certificate. Legally speaking, Bill Foster is Ava Starr's adoptive father, and this identity has legal effect."

With Friday's reports, Peter finally understood the identity of the person before him.

It seemed that after S.H.I.E.L.D.'s collapse, Bill Foster had taken her in, and likely used his former position within S.H.I.E.L.D. to erase some of the evidence.

So, Bill Foster had been desperately gathering funds, purchasing equipment, and building quantum experiment instruments all these years to cure his adopted daughter, Ava Starr!

Peter realized he might have been wrong about Doctor Foster.

Even if he had indeed plagiarized Hank Pym's research, he hadn't used it for personal gain, but to save his daughter.

This wasn't a bad thing at all; it was something to be commended.

Doctor Foster was a good man!
