Chapter 81 - Mage?

Peter's heart surged with excitement.

At that moment, the bus he was on turned a corner—

Suddenly—

BZZZZZZT!!!

His spider-sense went absolutely wild, more intense than ever before!

Peter jerked his head up and looked outside.

For an instant, it was as though his eyes pierced through the fabric of reality itself—He saw a dark shroud spreading across the sky, blanketing the entire world!

"...!!!"

Peter froze.

What was that!?It was only around five in the afternoon—the sun was still up!

The darkness lasted only for a moment. Then, the world snapped back to normal daylight.

But his spider-sense didn't calm down—in fact, it flared even stronger, pulsing in his head until it almost made him dizzy!

Peter took a few deep breaths, forcing the sensation down. He closed his notebook and quickly tucked it under the bus seat behind him.

That notebook was special—it had been his first computer, bought with his own hard-earned money, and Ned had helped him design a complex encryption system and reinforce the casing.

The bus was heading toward Queens. Even if something happened, Karen could help him locate it later, so he wasn't worried about losing it.

He took out his phone and sent Aunt May a quick message: he was still at the lab, had a sudden breakthrough, and might be home late.

Then he pocketed the phone and turned his eyes once again toward the direction his spider-sense was tugging him.

Hiss—

The bus came to a stop by a roadside station. Peter got off and slipped into a quiet alley. Raising his wrist, he tapped his watch.

He'd made five disposable nano-suits in total. Two had been wrecked during experiments; three remained—reserved for emergencies.

Like this one.

He had planned to have dinner with Aunt May at seven after her shift. His schedule for the day had been simple:School → Stark Industries' composite materials factory tour → dinner with Aunt May → home and sleep.

No spider-suit required.Besides, things had been peaceful around both Manhattan and Queens lately.

So after school, he'd dropped off his backpack, grabbed his laptop bag, and headed out—Only to run into this.

Reason told him to walk away. But the intense, throbbing spider-sense in his mind—and that dark shroud still lingering in his vision—wouldn't let him.

Taking a deep breath, Peter pressed the button on his watch.

Whoosh—!

Nanoparticles burst out from the device, swarming over his body in seconds, forming his spider-suit.

Instantly, his spider-sense spiked again—the danger now crystal clear.

Before, it had felt like something muffled by a thin membrane. Now, that barrier was gone.

Swish!

A few agile leaps later, Peter landed at the heart of the disturbance.

He looked around.According to his spider-sense, this was it.

But what he saw was… just a normal apartment building?

Well—Not entirely normal.

Something about it was off.It was… empty.

A whole building, with no one inside? Impossible. Even if everyone were at work, there should be someone home.

CLANG!

A thunderous crash rang out.

The building shook—And for a split second, space itself twisted.

Through that distortion, Peter glimpsed a completely different structure:

A Victorian-style brownstone mansion, Baroque in design, with steep gabled roofs and a massive spherical window at its center.

The front doors burst open—Two figures ran out.

One was a tall, lean man with a short beard and a red cloak, dressed oddly—not at all modern. More like… a sorcerer.

The other was a dark-skinned man in a simple, aged tunic—like a monk.

"I've got his Sling Ring! They can't get out now, right?" the sorcerer called to the monk.

The monk opened his mouth to reply—But the brownstone behind them rippled like a mirror—

And three menacing figures stepped out, brimming with hostility.

"Run!" the monk shouted, bolting down the street.

The sorcerer followed immediately.

"Wait for me!" Peter yelled, taking off after them.

He didn't understand what was happening—but this was New York City, a place full of people.Whatever this was, he couldn't just stand by.

Sorcerer: ???Monk: ???

The sorcerer turned back, eyes wide. "You can see us? How did you even get in here?"

Peter blinked. "Huh? Isn't this the real world? What do you mean, 'get in here'?"

They were running full speed, yet Peter easily caught up to them—almost leisurely.

The two exchanged shocked looks.

Just then, a car came barreling toward them.

Peter reached out, grabbed both men under his arms, and leaped gracefully over the vehicle, saying,"You two are way too slow! Let the Spider-Man Express give you a lift. Where to, gentlemen?"

"Uh—hello, Mr. Express," the sorcerer said quickly, still trying to process what was happening. "I don't know how you barged into this dimension, but you should leave—this is very dangerous."

He was about to continue, but Peter's speed left him speechless.

Even while carrying both of them, the young hero was sprinting as if he weighed nothing, covering over a hundred meters in mere seconds.

And he looked completely at ease.

This kid…

"Right—hello. My name's Stephen Strange," the man said quickly, recovering his composure. "I'm a sorcerer. Thank you for your help, Mr. Express."

"Hi, hi—uh, Spider-Man," Peter corrected with an awkward grin. "Spider-Man's the real deal; 'Express' was just a temporary title."

The sorcerer's earnestness was kind of endearing, and Peter couldn't help but be curious.

"Hello, I'm Mordo," said the "monk" beside him. "Also a sorcerer. Thank you for your assistance, Spider-Man."

"Sorcerers? You mean—real magic users?" Peter blurted out in surprise.

No sooner had he said that—

—the world around them began to warp.

Buildings twisted, streets folded, the ground flipped upside down.

Everything spun wildly—

And the scene dissolved into chaos.
